Calling all Graduate students (and undergraduates)!
Have you ever wanted to make a difference within the international organization of SPSP? Want to work with other motivated students to improve events and offerings for SPSP grad students? The SPSP Graduate Student Committee (GSC) wants YOU! The role of GSC is to inform the SPSP Executive Committee about student needs by generating ideas and programs to meet those needs. For example, just this year we have put together a preconference and symposium for SPSP, are holding a social event and first-time attendee breakfast, and continued the SPSP mentoring luncheons, student poster awards, as well as outstanding research awards!
We are looking for motivated, energetic, and dedicated individuals to carry on our mission next year. If this sounds like a great opportunity for you, it is! See below for further details on the deadline, and forward this to any students who may be interested!
We look forward to hearing from you,
Marina Milyavskaya

Call for Nominations Information
There are currently four types of positions within the GSC: the President, the Past-President, the Members-at-Large (of which there are 4), and the Member-at-large in charge of undergraduate affairs. The current president will automatically move into the past-president position next year. The other 6 positions are open (President and 5 Members-at-Large). The president is elected for a 2-year term (1 year as president and 1 year as past-president). The president's main role is to serve as the head of the GSC and act as the liaison between the GSC and the executive committee.
The four members-at-large are the "meat" of the GSC and are primarily responsible for coming up with ideas, developing them, and implementing programs relevant to grad student interests. These positions are 1 year in length with the option to run for re-election for a second term.
The GSC recognizes that undergraduate membership in SPSP is growing, and we wish to support these potential future psychologists and their concerns. Therefore, we seek an ambitious undergraduate (or graduate student who will support this effort) to run as Member-at-Large in charge of Undergraduate Affairs. This position would focus on raising undergrad awareness of SPSP, boosting undergrad membership, and assembling resources relevant to undergraduates who are thinking about graduate school.
No prior experience is required for these positions. The only requirement is that you are a current student member of SPSP in good standing. If you would like more specific information regarding the responsibilities of these positions, please contact Sean at: sean....@nuim.ie
If you would like to submit a self-nomination, please send the following information to us at sps...@yahoo.com:
1. Name
2. University affiliation
3. Position you are seeking
4. Brief position statement (around a paragraph) stating why you would like the position, why people should vote for you, any relevant past experience, ideas you would implement, etc.
Timeline of election process: Nominations are due by DECEMBER 16, 2011. The candidate information will be distributed to all SPSP grad students shortly thereafter, and voting will take place during the end of December and early January. Candidates will be notified about the outcome of the election in January. A meeting for the members-elect and the current GSC will be arranged at SPSP to get the upcoming GSC to meet each other and the current GSC before they begin working together. Terms of office will begin on March 1, 2012 and end on February 28, 2013.
