To Spruce Hill Community Association,
My name is Mike Sgier, a West Philadelphia resident and a member of Philly Bike Action. We’re currently organizing a cleanup of the Walnut Street protected bike lane between the blocks of 43rd to 47th Streets for Saturday, April 11, as part of the citywide Philly Spring Cleanup. The protected bike lane on these blocks is heavily used by the community, and we’re hoping to clear it up after a tough and challenging winter.
Since part of the proposed cleanup area falls within the area of the Spruce Hill Community Association, I would like to extend a formal invitation to your board and membership to join us for the cleanup! Supplies, tools, snacks, and refreshments will be provided to volunteers.
Here are the details for the event:
When: Saturday, April 11, 12-2pm
Meeting place and homebase: Southeast corner of Walnut and 45th Streets
Cleaning plan: Groups of volunteers will clean the bike lane eastbound to 43rd and westbound to 47th. If we have enough volunteers and time allows, we may be able to continue past these streets.
A sign up form for volunteers can be found here: https://forms.gle/qrWPUC9v27h33fZv5. While a formal sign up is not required, this will help us gauge how many people may attend. A flyer and graphic for social media is in the works, and I’ll be happy to share that once it’s ready.

Let me know if you have any questions at this time. I hope we can work together to help the West Philadelphia community!
Thanks,
Mike Sgier
