Considering all the recent changes and activity revolving around
SproutCore, I'd like to propose the idea of holding a SproutCore User
Group meeting. My first thought is to hold it Saturday, January 21st
in Washington D.C. I suggest this location because it is fairly
central to the U.S. East Coast where there are a number of known
SproutCore users, but also because it has a large international
airport for those who might want to fly in. The date gets us past the
holidays and is far enough out to give people time to make travel
plans. Finally being on a Saturday it shouldn't interfere with work
schedules. Anyone with an interest in the future of SproutCore would
be welcome and encouraged to attend.

The idea of the meeting would be to get as many SproutCore
stakeholders as possible together to discuss current plans for the
project, ideas for the future, different directions the project could
take, and hopefully reach some kind of consensus on courses of action.
I realize discussions are already underway and plans are being made
even as I write this, but sometimes it's really helpful to meet people
face to face and talk through some of these things, plus it also
allows community members an opportunity to show off the kinds of work
they are doing with the project. Finally, it builds interest in the
SproutCore community and increases its profile.

With any luck, this could become as an annual event similar to those
other large open source projects have.

I welcome any feedback.

Regards,

John

Can't afford to fly out. Mught be nice if it was remote enabled?

I probably can't be there in person, but would love to remote in as well.

This is also a chance for me to plug sproutcore.com.  If you're going to host events big or small, let me know and I'll see about getting it added to the Events calendar on the website.  If it's a big event, I may be able to wrangle some design work on your behalf to place in the main page carousel.

Thanks,

I live right across the river from DC, So I am definitely in.

John, do you have a venue in mind for the meetup? I know Fathom
creative had been letting folks use their space to hold meetups
(jQuery DC being one of them).

Alternatively I can see if we can use District I/O - a co-working
space I am part of.

Thanks,

Piotr

Hi Piotr,

Evin's company is in that area so he's checking to see if it can be
arranged to use their facilities. We were hoping to have a definitive
answer by next week. If you can check into District I/O as a plan B
idea, that would be super.

Mark you calendars! It looks we're a go for a SproutCore 2012 User
Group meeting on January 21st. Eloqua has offered to let us use their
facility to host the event in Vienna, VA. which is just outside of
Washington, D.C. We will provide remote access for those who can not
physically attend. More details concerning the agenda will be
forthcoming. Right now we anticipate starting at 10:00AM and finishing
up by 5:00 PM.

I know several of you have indicated interest in this thread. If you
plan to attend please send a message with your name and contact
information directly to me at jroge...@mac.com. Please indicate
whether you will be attending in person or remotely.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Regards,

John
