Hello All,
I am moving from Boston and have some electronics to unload:
-plextor dvd rw in enclosure(something wrong with its firmware)
-iriver ihp 120 audio player (don't remember if anything is wrong with
it, was known for its audio quality and optical output back in the
day, running rock box os)
-Asus EEE 7" Laptop (not sure anything is wrong with it, I remember
the usb controller emitting some dense smoke a while ago, it comes
modded with a bluetooth dongle and hub built in
-Canon camera fully functional but for back screen, would be ideal for
IR conversion if you wanted to do photosynthesis testing and such
activities with children, or wire it for time lapses
-I'm sure I have some more random things lying around, let me know if
you are interested.

Hi, I'm quite interested in the iriver ihp 120 audio player. Will you be at project night this Thursday? Please advise.

Hi Derin and sprout,

Although I don't personally have an immediate need for any of those items, that's a sweet lot of freediystuff you're offering.

I would though like to take a moment to (shamelessly :-) plug a new website project I've started that's up at http://www.hasthat.com because it's for situations like this.

Just within the sprout community, I have seen these kinds of moving-away-giveaways a number of times. And I think they're fantastic! I have been wondering though if there might be a better way to help both people in the community looking for these kinds of things as well as owners looking to find good homes for their things and maybe hasthat can help.

The site acts as a repository for the physical things that you have. I created it in part to help me get a handle on my own stuff and store the stories of those things but also to try and distribute stuff more effectively than places like craigs and ebay to people that might have a need for them. Whether it's selling, lending, or giving away those things.

For instance, on my end, I've been holding on to a bunch of monitoring electrodes (http://www.hasthat.com/thing/14/) that I got for a project more than a year ago that I no longer have a need for. craigslist doesn't really make sense since those posts expire and I don't have an immediate need to get rid of them, but maybe by having them up on the site someone in a similar position as I was before I got them would be able to find them and put them to good use.

I'm just getting going on the site so functionality is limited, but a short-term goal is to add a filtering layer that could be more useful for a community like sprout. You'd be able to create a group and tag things to a particular community or area of interest, which could then be explored and followed by other people in the community. Sort of like a distributed storage unit!

I'd be very interested to hear if you think this might be useful (or if you think it wouldn't be!) as well as any suggestions and questions.

Thanks,
Eliot

Nice idea for the site.  It seems that geographic tagging might be useful. I have a few things to consider adding.

Sounds good to me ... may I post the hasthat website as another resource for my decluttering Meetup group (>180 people:  fourth largest such group in the world!) to consider:

Some folks might appreciate help digitally photographing and posting their stuff online ... any suggestions for that?  I certainly have stuff I could post ... are there criteria for the sorts of stuff that can be posted (obviously illegal items are not allowed, I assume)?

In fact, I'd like to check w/ sprout & co. about whether my Meetup group can meet somewhere in your space, as suggested on one of sprout's websites; I'm going to try to come to the "Indoctrination & Identity" film screening tomorrow evening-- was that film created/produced/whatever by Zeega, by any chance?
