We are in a social emergency.  What's next?

In emergencies like hurricanes and tsunamis, emergency response centers exist to coordinate evacuations or provide services like temporary housing, food, and water. Join us in re-imagining response centers to take on the real and pressing social emergency that we are facing today.

Kit #2 is Ready for Pickup!

Infinity Mirror

An infinity mirror is a pair of parallel mirrors which creates a series of smaller and smaller reflections that appear to recede in the infinite distance.  We made ours out of a strand of LEDS, a battery pack, and two small round mirrors, one acrylic and one out of "one way mirror" film used on car windows.

The Whoa Machine

This project consists of a kaleidoscope with a color-changing LED inside.  We're using a 3-mirror kaleidoscope system which reflects the light from an LED to create a continuous pattern of triangles.  It's a simple and pretty cool optics demonstration!

Sounds great, when can I expect it?

Dates and times for local pickup.   Stop by 577 Somerville Ave anytime after Wednesday from 9-5:30 (weekdays) or 10-3 on Saturdays to pick up your kit.  If you're coming by on a Saturday, you can also stay to build it during our regular open shop hours!

Still haven't picked up your second month's kit? In general, we'll be holding these for a month; if it's longer than 30 days, we'll assume you're gifting it to a worthy cause. If you haven't picked up your lightsabers yet, please email us.  We've been aggressive about clearing out back inventory but may be able to add these to the next production round.

Monthly Make-It Wiki is live! Check out our dedicated project page, available at www.partsandcrafts.org/makeit. We've got instructions up for lightsabers, copper tape circuits, motors, dynamos, etc. We'll be updating and adding new projects in the months to come. In the meantime, check out our Youtube channel, Making Things!

Extend your kit subscription!

If you're at the end of a 3-month subscription and JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH, go to the Parts and Crafts store to extend your subscription!  Just as a heads up: New kit sign-ups go into the next cycle rather than starting at the beginning, so you may have to wait awhile if you want a motorcar, a dynamo or a lightsaber.  Soon though!
