Search by type not limited to user's notebooks

Hi, 

I'm trying to implement implement functionality similar to what users experience on the SpringPad website when the user elects to add something like a movie.  The user is presented with a search box and after searching they get a list of movies from which to select the one to add.  I'm trying to use the /blocks/all endpoint to implement the search.  I'm passing the text the user typed in, as a parameter, but I only receive back products in the result.  Seems there isn't a way to specify a type when using this URL.  How would one go about implementing a search by type and search string?
