Hi Pedro,

I'm glad that you are finding the book useful.

Please do share your views on how we can better the book when we go for the second edition (which'll probably happen sometime around mid of next year). Also, if possible, please post your review at www.amazon.com to get the word out.

thanks

Hi Ashish,

Had a chance to go through your book and it is one of the best resource available on Spring Roo. I'm specifically interested in developing Roo Addons. But, unfortunately I'm unable to set up a development environment for STS in my machince(I'm sitting behind a corporate firewall).
My development environment is

1. Windos XP
2. Maven 3.0.3
3. STS 2.8.0
4. Java 1.6.0_24-b07
5. Roo-1.1.5 Source Code

For setting up STS enviroment, I tried to run mvn assemby:assemby command on the roo source. But it is failing with the following error.

[INFO] Final Memory: 47M/494M
[INFO] ------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ERROR] Failed to execute goal org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-assembly-plugin:2.2-beta-5:assembly (default-cli) on project org.springframework.roo.root: Error reading assemblies: No assembly descriptors found. -> [Help 1]
[ERROR]
[ERROR] To see the full stack trace of the errors, re-run Maven with the -e switch.
[ERROR] Re-run Maven using the -X switch to enable full debug logging.
[ERROR]

Can you please give me some pointers to solve this issue.

Thanks and regards
Santhosh

Hi Santhosh,

It's a bit involved process to build Spring Roo from source. To develop an add-on for Spring Roo, you don't need to build from source. Refer to the README.TXT file that is there in Roo project source for building Roo from source. To create a Roo add-on refer to Chapter 7 which describes in detail what you need to do to develop simple or advanced Roo add-ons.

Hi Ashish,
Thanks for your quick response and consideration.

I'm following the the steps detailed in your book along with Readme
file. But since we are working behind a corporate firewall, we are
facing some difficulty in installing the newly created roo plugin. In
order to bypass our proxy, we decided to build roo from source. Now we
are able to use the dev shell (roo-dev). But we are facing difficulty
in setting up a STS(2.8.0) which requires a roo assembly. We are
unable to complete that part ie. Failing to create an assembly.

Looking forward for any expert advice from you to get around this
issue.

Thanks and Regards
Santhosh

Kaliada,

You may find more people help with your problem if you post to the official SpringRoo forums on the SpringSource website.

I'm not sure I understand why you needed to build roo from source. I thought there was a way of using a web proxy with the command line roo app. STS is not required AFAIK.

Goodluck.

I agree with Alex that you'll get much better response at Spring Roo forum.

I think your issue is related to firewall, when you are running assembly plugin it's not able to download the dependencies.
