Can anyone enlighten me as to why the orders (shopping cart) view has
an input for the zipcode? I need to be sure I calculate taxes for
orders shipped to Georgia. I have set up my taxation zones and zone
rate for Georgia, but I don't see how to tie that zone data into the
shopping cart itself.

The zipcode input somewhat provides a clue, but there's no zipcode
data in the database to say what zipcodes are in Georgia, so I'm
foundering a bit here...any clues would be appreciated.

And now that I've been playing with the orders part of spree a goodly
part of the day...why are all countries listed just above the zipcode
input field? I only established two shipping methods and zones and
should only be able to ship to locations withing the USA...I'm just a
little confused at the moment as there seems to be a disconnect from
ordering and the zones I established and not sure how zipcode even
comes into play with the zones and taxation logic...

I think this is b/c of issues with the pp website payments standard
extension you mentioned in #spree today. Try dropping this extension
and see if things don't get much simpler for you.

It definitely came from pp_standard_website. I'm not even sure why
either country or zipcode is collected here as PayPal will collect it
if you don't pass it on and I'd rather let PayPal do it, so I removed
both from the view.

Cool. Are you interested in helping us to update the extension and
its docs? Did we talk about that in IRC a while back? (I can't
remember.) If so, please let me know b/c I'm planning on talking with
Gregg tomorrow (Friday) and I can ask him to add you as a committer to
the extension.

We talked about it on IRC. I thought about it during my vacation
break and I am not all that keen on being an updater/maintainer for
the project as I am not a PP expert by any means and am hoping I'm not
doing too many more PP integrations in the future. We mentioned
blogging an how-to article and I may do that.

Let me get through the current customer's implementations and see
where things stand at that point. Is Gregg not actively maintaining
the extension any more?

That's cool. I don't think Gregg is maintaining it but we'll find
somebody eventually. Are there actual changes that we need to merge
in? If so, I can merge your fork (I have commit rights as well.)

I just want to make sure that we have everything documented as much as
possible so we can minimize the pain for everyone involved. Blog
post, wiki or whatever would be helpful. If you do as a blog post it
would be helpful to add to README so people could find it.
