Hi,

I did a clean quick-start install of Spree. Upon running rake
db:bootstrap, I got a warning:

Loading haml-edge gem.
[find_by_param error] database not available?

but it seems to then run the migrations fine. Then, upon starting the
server and navigating to localhost:3000, I get this exception:

Status: 500 Internal Server Error
undefined local variable or method `check' for
#<ApplicationController:0x3319e3c>

Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

Hi Brian,

have you created/edited the config/database.yml file inside your application? Spree comes with an example file, so you could rename it and edit inserting your database info.
Are you running it from a gem, or from the edge?

Maybe you should take a look at this page http://spreecommerce.com/support/quick_start, notice the step 2.

Here's the full stack trace: http://pastie.textmate.org/686719

Juliano--I am using sqlite as the default database, so it looks like
the the default database.yml should work. I'm running from the gem.

I suspect it could be your haml-edge gem. Side Note: I am starting to
hate that freaking library.

We switched to full haml once they finally released it. I'm not sure
why haml-edge is loading, I suspect it might be the compass plugin.

Try upgrading haml-edge to latest if you can (will be difficult b/c of
github dropping a bunch of the gem versions recently.) You could also
try uninstalling haml-edge entirely and just using haml.

Thanks--upgrading haml-edge from 2.3.74 to 2.3.75 did it!
