spree 0.11.2, rails 2.3.12, cpanel 11.30.2

Has anybody had any luck getting spree 0.11.2 going on rails 2.3.12.
The specs say rails 2.3.8 is the minimum requirement, but cpanel
11.30.2 is preventing me from installing 2.3.8. So I'm stuck with
rails 2.3.12. I've edited spree's boot.rb file to allow rails 2.3.12
and the install is successful. However when I start the server,
inside the mongrel.log file is:

Missing the Spree 0.11.2 gem. Please `gem install -v=0.11.2 spree`,
update your SPREE_GEM_VERSION setting in config/environment.rb for the
Rails version you do have installed, or comment out SPREE_GEM_VERSION
to use the latest version installed.

And 0.11.2 is what I have. I have commented out the SPREE_GEM_VERSION
in config/environment.rb with no luck.

Any ideas? Or other workarounds so that I can get it working in cpanel
with rails 2.3.12?

You can download the source of 0-11-stable and search for all references to 2.38 and changed it to 2.3.12. Then host the source code instead of using gem.

So you think that error message means that there are more lines that
state what version of rails is expected that I have missed and
unrelated to the spree version?

The error is due to hardcorded version. Spree is well tested with 2.3.8. You're at your own risk to try it on 2.3.12.

Is there a version of spree that would work out of the box with rails
2.3.12?

There is no packaged spree gem that depends on 2.3.12, you're on your own if you want to bump to 2.3.12.

wondering how much interest there is in having a spree 0.11.x that
works with rails 2.3.12 ?

I'm in need of such a thing myself so was thinking of tackling the
issue if noone else already has?

You are welcome to send a pull request against the 0-11-stable branch. One caveat though is that 0.11.x lacks test coverage.
