"Semiconductor provider Spreadtrum Communications, Inc. (SPRD, quote)
and Indian Mobile Brand Micromax Informatics Limited have announced a
partnership to grow the market for innovative handset products in
India and other emerging markets. Spreadtrum will also invest US$10
million in Micromax and become one of Micromax’s preferred mobile
chipset suppliers.
"Micromax is the 12th largest handset manufacturer in the world (No. 3
in India) and ships more than 4 million handsets each quarter. The
company has an established sales presence across India, Hong Kong,
Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Brazil and several other
emerging nations."
