[And this initiated from our strong-sell short friend, TeeJay- who offered a link conveying the explosion of CEVA - not knowing the integrated connection to Spreadtrum... thanks bud!]
"According to William Blair, the baseband chips in the special iPhone will be from Chinese company Spreadtrum (SPRD), which exclusively uses Ceva solutions. With or without Apple, the close connection between Spreadtrum and Ceva gives the latter huge potential in China in the coming years, because, at present, of the 930 million mobile telephony subscribers in China, only 90 million have 3G telephones."
"The potential for Ceva from Spreadtrum is significant, because it holds half the Chinese 3G baseband chip market alongside Marvell (MRVL), ST-Ericsson, and MediaTek of Taiwan, which divide the other half between them. William Blair believes that Apple will prefer to work with a Chinese processor supplier for its telephone for this market, and so they think the choice will fall on Spreadtrum."
