Marvell, RFMD, Mediatek all struggling in the 4th quarter, while SPRD
meets or exceeds. Is RFMD gaining market share?

"Chip maker Marvell Technology Group Ltd. (NASDAQ: MRVL) lowered its
revenue estimate for the fourth quarter this morning from $775-$825
million to $735-$745 million. The company’s CEO explained the
projected decline:
The supply of disk drives started to recover in our fourth fiscal
quarter, but later than we had originally anticipated. Our SSD
revenues grew more than expected but not enough to offset the impact
of the Thailand floods on our HDD volumes. In addition, we experienced
year-end demand softness at our mobile and wireless customers,
particularly in China. We believe these effects are near term only,
and should not impact our results in the new fiscal year."

"China Mobile (NYSE: CHL;
0941.HK) has released a list of winning
bidders in its TD-SCDMA handset procurement tender. The tender is for
six handset models, approximately 500,000 to 600,000 of each for a
total of 3-4 mln units. The orders are divided between Lenovo
(
0992.HK), ZTE (
0763.HK;
000063.SZ), and Huawei, with chips to be
supplied by Spreadtrum (Nasdaq: SPRD), Leadcore and MediaTek.
Spreadtrum and Leadcore will provide chipsets for two models each,
while MediaTek will provide for one, and MediaTek and Leadcore will
provide one they have jointly developed.....
Marvell was among the chipset bidders, but was not selected since its
products are aimed at high-end TD-SCDMA handsets."
Spreadtrum's website promotes Quorum transmitter chips, not RFMD.
Mediatek, being off shore, may not have the close relationships with
smaller cell phone manufacturers that SPRD has.
