Hi All,

Please join us for 3 demos at our upcoming Spotlight Community call this Friday, 12 February 2021. The time, Zoom link and other information is available in our community call notes.

The demos will focus on embedding tools into Spotlight exhibits, alongside the new browse group feature Stanford just released to Spotlight v3.0.0.rc4

  • Cathy Aster, Product & Service Manager, Stanford Libraries - New Spotlight feature - demo of browse groups 

  • Andria Olson, Map Librarian, Stanford Libraries - ESRI story maps in Spotlight at Stanford exhibits

  • Melissa Murphy, Reference Librarian & Heather Oswald, Manager of Public Services, Harvard - The South Sea Bubble, 1720 and embedded tools: Omeka Neatline and ArcGIS StoryMaps

That was fast (!). Can you work in one or two sentences about how:

1.) Spotlight was developed here, and has spread as OSS
2.) Stanford benefits by not only helping other libraries, but receiving inspiration, design (and code??)

When you think it’s ready please feel free to post it to the Spotlight group. Or if you think that might be immodest, Hannah or I can do it on your behalf. 

Also note that Gabrielle & Sonia should pick this up in Cover to Cover automatically next week. (I think they link out to every new blog post…)

Please consider writing a SUL blog post on the Spotlight community. It might touch on how Spotlight started here, but has been adopted by other sites now, there’s a monthly call and a community of practice, that the last call saw 11 adopters, that by sharing code and community we increase the value to Stanford, etc. 

This isn’t urgent or a mandate, but could be a very nice stretch assignment, for when the time is right.

Personally I’m pleased at how things are waxing, and wanted to bring some visibility in these community and external developments to others at Stanford. If you have done some similar internal outreach (inreach?), please share.
