You say you got the box for about 5 euro. It looks really neat,
especially with the hot shoe. Can you be more specific as to where you
bought the box?

I think it was "Reichelt" (www.reichelt.de) but the box did not include the hotshoe. I bought adapters from Hongkong (5€ each) and used the lower half of one of them.

I bought exactly the same box at Conrad (www.conrad.com) for € 2,89
(that's at conrad.nl - prices may differ for other countries).
It's a perfect box for this project. The LCD fits great and so does a
PCB. I've integrated the (single) battery holder onto the PCB.
I've got a similar hotshoe construction as Till, though the hotshoe
seems from what it looks like a bit tougher.
I took it of a SC-28 like cable I got off Ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/
eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250434554719).
It has a metal shoe with a locking mechanism similar to the SB-800.

The board that I have is not ready and tested yet, so I won't post it
here until I do all that.
I've used SMD components only on a double layer board.
If you use double layer I'm sure you won't need any 'air wires' since
you can use via's.
