Hi,

I can't seem to import any data from Killersports.com to Excel through the Import Data "From Web" function. When I use SportsDataBase.com with the same query, it's works fine. Problem is that some of my queries don't work on SportsDataBase, so I wan't to use Killersports as well. When I import now, it shows al the info on the page except the table with the query results (the part I want). Anyone knows how to tackle this? Or why this won't work? Thanks in advance!

Rene,

I think the issue with this is that the data tables are generated using JSON and Javascript. I've tried doing something similar using Xpath and ImportXML from Google Docs to no avail it always says that the content in empty. So my guess is that the data is being populated client side (ie what we see on our browsers) and not actually being written to the page. This actually helps prevent scraping capabilities and such. I have a bit of programming knowledge, but by no means an expert and this is road block that I haven't been able to maneuver around. You might be able to fiddle with an Import JSON feature that would pass comma delimited data back to your spreadsheet and you can could parse it out that way. Just takes a few extra steps.

Are you using the web query function in the data section of excel?

It may be a little bit of an imposition but I use the simple copy and paste function on excel.

In order to have input to appear in excel the same as on the web page simply COPY the info

Then click on the drop down menu on the PASTE button and select either the unicode or text option - there ya go.

Thanks for the reply Eric! I think you're right about this. I have read some things about JSON before, but it looks complicated. Might have to give it another try.

Yes, that's what I use. You have had any luck with that Mike? It works fine with Sportsdatabase.

The idea is to automate this for multiple queries, so I won't have to do this by hand al the time;)

It appears that killersports has disabled the function probably due to server traffic and data miners. As you stated it works fine with sportsdatabase. I suggest that you set up a query in killersports; verify you get the same results at sportsdatabase and then use the url from sportsdatabase to set up your web query in excel
