The modified SR 21 has just witnessed the rating rule conundrum. If all
our rated sport boats used the big roach style main sail there should
not be a problem. But if a design uses the traditional small roach main
the rating for the big main will be heavily penalized; i.e. Vertigo
(mod Magic 25) lowered his rating app 25 sec a mile by going to the
smaller main.
After me get this thing going, we will need to study the available rule
properly before we rush into selecting the wrong path. That is why I am
suggesting we use PHRF this season. After a good evaluation we can
decide as a group in which direction to move.
We don't want to push out any particular designs, but if the boat in
its original config. totally throws out, skew the rating formula then
it may be best to not allow that design in the accepted designs.
Anyone know how many designs that are in the list I sent out feature
traditional roach main?
