Dear Fr. Pathrose Champakkara,
I am so deeply hurt and saddened by the events that took place yesterday during the church general body meeting (Pothuyogam). You were an utter disappointment and we were shocked to see you dancing to the tunes of 3 or 4 individuals at the church. You have many times talked about your self as a man with a spine, but yesterday without any doubt, you proved it to be a spine made out of rubber rather than steel. Whatever happed yesterday, you have no one to blame for it but yourself. You were a puppet controlled by the Chicago led puppeteers, and all throughout the meeting you swayed like a spineless bamboo. During the meeting, you were an embarrassment to the Knanaya community, and during your closing prayer you were an embarrassment to the Catholic Christian community. As a Christian faithful, as a catholic priest, how dare you make fun of people and criticize people during a PRAYER!!!!
When you first came to Tampa you had said, you will go back to India if this church ever becomes non-endogamous. Yesterday you corrected that and restated, you will go back to India if this church ever becomes non-knanaya. Why don't you do a google search on the definition of the word Knanaya ? The first definition that comes up is from Wikipedia and it says: "The Knanaya, also known as the Southists or Tekkumbhagar, are an endogamous group in the Saint Thomas Christian community of Kerala, India. They are differentiated from another part of the community, known in this context as the Northists. Today there are about 300,000 Knanaya in India and elsewhere." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knanaya, Now that I've said this, I am sure Fr. Mutholum will somehow get this changed on Wikipedia). Knanaya Catholics of Tampa have very differentiated, polarized view about Jimmy Kavil, but whether you love him or hate him, one thing everyone will agree; Jimmy Kavil is the godfather of Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Church of Tampa. This church is here today ONLY because of one person and that is Jimmy Kavil. Yesterday during the General Body, Jimmy publicly stated "after the circular dated Dec. 20th, this church is no longer an endogamous church and no matter how you twist and spin the wordings within the circular, the fact is our church is no longer an endogamous church." Since Knanaya means an endogamous group, and since this church is no longer an endogamous church, this is no longer a Knanaya church. If you are true to your word, then go back to India as you promised, but I am sure you won't because you have become just another priest addicted to the materialistic world we live in and to the standard of life we enjoy here in America.
If you have any conviction left in you, then you are required to forward to the diocese the resolution that we passed yesterday, either with your consent or with your dissent. Either way, according to the "Procedure Rules for the General Body and Parish Council of the St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago" you are obligated to forward to the diocese what is passed at a General Body. (Page 46-47, item 108 says: The resolutions passed in the meetings of the General Body and Parish Council will become effective and binding only after the approval of the president. If the resolutions at the meeting is unacceptable to the president of the meeting or the pastor, he can write his note of dissent, and he shall refer it to the direction or decision of the eparchial curia.) When we pointed this out yesterday and informed you that you are required to forward it to the curia, you challenged us and said "shall" means it's not a requirement and it's at your discretion. You had made this same exact argument during your first General Body, after you initially came to America. We excused you at the time because you were new to this country and not familiar with American legal documents, but we gently informed you at the time that shall is used in all legal documents and shall means it's an obligation. After two years of being in this country, I was surprised to hear you use the same argument. If you have any doubts take a look at the US Constitution and it's Bill of Rights. Just to give you an example;
"Article the third [Amendment I]
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." (http://www.constitution.org/billofr_.htm).
1. I am the LORD your God: you shall not have strange Gods before me.
2. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
5. You shall not kill.
6. You shall not commit adultery.
7. You shall not steal.
8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
9. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.
10. You shall not covet your neighbor's goods.
I hope after reading the commandments, you wouldn't dare or be naive enough to still insist shall means it's at your discretion. Therefore father, please do what is required of you and forward the resolution that we passed at the general body to the eparchial curia.
You may refer this link, it will help you with words and how it is used.
Dear Father, you still have time to change your self and be a person of the people. You should try to break away the strings that are holding you back all the way to Chicago. Be true to your self and to your Knanaya identity. You are in a cocoon surrounded by 3 or 4 individuals, and if you manage to come out of it, then 99 percent of the Tampa Knanaya Community will be with you. If you fail to learn from yesterday, then all I can say is, may god be with you.
Sincerely,
Tampa Kna.
