Dear knanaya Friends,
I am Babu Chackungal from Dallas. It is with great pleasure that I announce my candidacy for the position of KCCNA Vice President in the upcoming Election to be held on Saturday, March 2nd in Chicago. I am running for this position as an independent candidate, but I will work as a team with the new Executive Committee in my fullest capacity.
I was born and raised at Karimkunnam. My father, late C.M. Abraham, is an ex-serviceman who participated in the Indo-Pak war in 1970-71. I finished my school at St. Augustine's High School in Karimkunnam and Pre- degree at Newman College Thodupuzha.I finished my Bachelor's Degree in Physics from St.Thomas College Palai and I completed Postgraduate diploma course in Nuclear Medicine at Bhabha Atomic Research Center in Bombay. I worked at Nanavathi Hospital in Bombay before I came to Dallas in 1990.
I am working as a Registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist at Parkland Hospital, Dallas, since 1990. I am married to Bindu Keeparayil and we have two children, Nia and Nick. I feel very humbled by the opportunity to serve the Dallas Knanaya community for the past many years. I was elected as the joint secretary (1996) and later became the secretary of the Dallas Knanaya Catholic Association. I also served in the Building Committee, which helped to buy the Dallas Knanaya Community Center in 2005. In the years 2007-2008 I served as the vice president of Dallas Knanaya Catholic Association. At Dallas 2010 kccna’s Convention, I served as an Accommodation Co-chair.
I am seeking this position not for personal ambitions, but because of my conviction that fundamental, structural change is needed to be made at KCCNA, capable of meeting the challenges that we face today. This year KCCNA Election is about something different. Time has come, we need to make our families strong, make our association activities to attract the youth and campaigning effectively with the church hierarchy in maintaining our status-co in the Catholic Church.
Endogamy is the backbone of the Kottayam Diocese and Knanaya community; we refuse to bend it… It is our blood; we refuse to dilute it… .Only we, the Knanaya people, have the right to determine what our community membership criteria are. Laws and traditions followed by the community for thousands of years cannot be changed by a Bishop or Diocese. Oriental Congregation has no power to ignore or violate the Papal Bull of 1911. It takes determination to reach our destination and we will.
I humbly and respectfully ask your support and vote for the position of KCCNA Vice President.
