GMonly provides hardware support for the GM devices (MDI and MDI 2) . If you are using other J2534 devices you will need to contact the device supplier for hardware support. This has been their policy in the past as well.

I used SPS today and the only difference is the first screen where you would normally have your list of interfaces only has 3 choices. J2534, tech2 pass thru and tech2 remote.Select j2534 regardless of which interface your using and a few screens later you will pick your actual interfaceGuess I should have read the first post. Oh well

Thank you Donny. During the first few days that the change was made it wasn't possible to choose any device that wasn't a GM tool (they were "greyed-out"). A customer advised me last night that they chose the J-2534 Tech 2, and while using a CarDAQ Plus, was successful in programming a new module. Dave Browning also wrote about that (in a post also in this thread).

Tutorial for Purchasing NERS Software

The software was updated March 6, 2024 to version 04.05.00. This version must be used when connecting to vehicle, and no previous versions will operate. NERS will be sunset on August 31, 2024 and will no longer function after that date. User can transition to CONSULT-III plus R2R or CONSULT-III plus software for reprogramming, blank programming, and VIN writing needs.

This NERS software supports reprogrammable Engine and Transmission control units from 1999 to 2019 model year vehicles, and 2005 MY and later VIN writing into ECUs, when using a Nissan validated pass-through device. This software only provides ECU reprogramming, blank programming, and VIN writing capability. It does not provide diagnostic or key programming capability. For Engine and Transmission control unit reprogramming and VIN writing capability on 2020 MY & newer, please use CONSULT-III plus or CONSULT-III plus R2R software.

Purchase of ECU data enables file download access for a period of 24 hours, after which time the file will no longer appear in your list of purchased data files. Be sure to download all data files immediately following your purchase.

When you purchase a J-2534 reprogramming file, you will get a zip file containing a data file (.dat, .pdx, .xcal, .7z), a .csv or .xml file and a Reprog_readme.pdf. Please review the readme file for information on where to place the files in your PC.

In order for you to locate the proper ECU file, you will need to look up the applicable Technical Services Bulletin(TSB) for your vehicle. Instructions in the TSB will pinpoint and advise you of the ECU part # to enter below.

Special Note: Nissan and Infiniti vehicle uses a high level of security when Re/programming or Configuration is performed to the vehicle ECUs. With the release of NERS software version 04.00.01 or greater, technicians will be required to login with their Nissan or Infiniti Techinfo website user ID and password to perform Re/programming and Configuration in NERS.

When you purchase a J-2534 Blank programming file, you will get a zip file containing a data file (.dat, .pdx, .xcal, .7z), a .csv or .xml file and a Reprog_readme.pdf. Please review the readme file for information on where to place the files in your PC.

How to find the proper J-2534 Blank Programming ECU file: Obtain the blank ECU part number when you purchase the replacement ECU. Enter this blank ECU part number in the field below. or Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve the blank ECU part number from the new ECU. Enter this blank ECU part number in the field below. Please note: Take care after making your selection that the listed vehicle information matches the vehicle you are programming.

The same holds true for the service community. Although the calibrations we download from the web and pass through to a particular module on the vehicle have been validated by the factory, there are some risks associated with module programming in the field with a J2534 device. The fuel economy may be worse now or the transmission may be shifting differently after a software update in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

What can we make of all this mention of shifting sand documents and regulations? We can conclude that universal is truly universal when it comes to sockets, extensions and drive shaft joints but the word is not as literal when it comes to things of an electrical nature and industry and a government bureaucracy are involved! What is the take away advice when it comes to this? J2534-1 and -2 programing devices are not backwards compatible for certain vehicles made prior to the adoption of the standards described above such as older BMWs.

Taking the conservative approach of 20 percent and using an $80 per hour shop rate with an average billable time of 1.5 hours per job the numbers do add up to pure profit from a piece of hardware priced well below most scan tools well within six months. I wished all the tools I purchased had that good of ROI time.

Chrysler, for example, has its share of software updates but only allows the aftermarket J2534universal pass through programmers to program powertrain-related modules. If you work on GM, Ford and Toyota, they allow more than just powertrain-related module programming so that opens up the door to more opportunities.

Another factor may be off board programming. You may have seen the bench top set up your parts WD or jobber is using to prepare remanufactured PCMs for sale. A 12-volt power supply, and optional cable kit with popular powertrain ECU adapter cables allows you to program PCMs outside of the vehicle.

Other terms such as setup, configure, reconfigure, relearn and code typically mean to use a scan tool or J2534 to change a handful of bit of data in a single module. An example of this would be a cam crank variation relearn.

We typically ship most Monday through Thursdays. We will have slightly reduced staff through August 2nd for a family trip. There will still be 2 shipping days during that time, but not daily. You will receive an automated email with tracking information the evening your order ships. If you can't wait, consider purchasing from STM Tuned who ship in the USA and internationally from their east coast location, or consider Works Motorsports on the west coast, or email us for suggestions closer to you. We thank you for your patience!

A J2534 cable that supports the needed channel(s) (ISO9141/CAN/ISO15765/J1850) should work with any J2534-compliant software, OEM or third party. That said, there can be issues with OEM software not behaving in J2534 compliant ways due to bugs or design errors. For this reason, we are maintaining a list here of software which is known to work with our cable. If you find other software which works (or has problems) please let us know at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . The NASTF also maintains a Service Information Matrix which can help you find software for a particular make.

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. ("Honda") offers the i-HDS (Honda Diagnostic System) software suite for the diagnosis and repair of electronic systems on Honda and Acura automobiles, and for the reprogramming of electronic control units (including, but not limited to, ECMs and PCMs). This software provides access to all Honda and Acura vehicle systems (access to the immobilizer security system requires a Security Professional level software subscription and Vehicle Security Professional [VSP] registration with NASTF). To use the i-HDS software, you need to purchase one of our convenient subscription options. In addition, you will need a pass-thru Vehicle Communication Device (VCI) that is compliant with SAE J2534-1 and J2534-2 in order to communicate with the vehicle

The i-HDS software suite, including the new ECU Reprogramming application, requires access to the websites and Internet port numbers listed below.

Please work with your dealer IT to ensure the dealer's service network is configured for i-HDS applications.

The i-HDS software supports the use of a generic pass-thru VCI that is compliant with SAE J2534-1 and J2534-2. However, American Honda (AH) and Honda Canada (HC) recommends the Honda Antares Capsule (HAC) for use on Honda and Acura vehicles. AH and HC has worked closely with this manufacturer to ensure their hardware and our software interact safely and within the J2534-1 and J2534-2 specifications, for both diagnostics and reprogramming. If you choose to use a generic VCI, please carefully consider the customer and technical support options you will receive from your chosen device supplier. Honda does not provide technical or customer support for generic VCI devices.
