War, Racism and Economic Injustice: The Global Ravages of Capitalism

DATE CHANGE March 7, 2010

War-RacismThe next regular meeting of TransAfrica Forum's Arthur R. Ashe, Jr. Foreign Policy Library Readers' Corner book club will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2010 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. instead of February 14 due to inclement weather, featuring the book War, Racism and Economic Injustice: The Global Ravages of Capitalism, by Fidel Castro and edited by Alexandra Keeble (2002, Ocean Press in association with Editora Politica, Melbourne and Havana).

Venue: TransAfrica Forum, 1629 K Street, NW, Suite 1100, Washington, DC 20006 (Nearest Metro Station: Farragut North on the Red Line or Farragut West on the Blue/Orange Lines).

Publisher's description: A damning analysis of the world economic and political order from one of the principal voices of the Third World. Always controversial and never reticent, Fidel Castro describes neoliberal globalization as a new system of "global apartheid." Addressing those who are demanding an alternative to the global ravages of capitalism, the Cuban leader says: "People used to talk about apartheid in South Africa. Today we could talk about apartheid throughout the world, where over four billion people are deprived of the most basic rights as human beings."

This book also includes Cuba's immediate response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Fidel condemns the hypocrisy of Washington's "war against terrorism," arguing that the first victims of the escalating cycle of terror are those people living in the poor and underdeveloped world.

The book is available at Teaching for Change Bookstore at Busboys and Poets, 2021 14th St. NW, Washington, DC (two blocks from the Cardozo/U Street Metro. Contact: General Manager Don Allen 202.387.POET.
