Highlight or right-click on a section of text and click on Translate icon next to it to translate it to your language. Or, to translate the entire page you're visiting, click the translate icon on the browser toolbar. Learn more about Google Translate at installing this extension, you agree to the Google Terms of Service and Privacy Policy at (v.2.0): Now you can highlight or right-click a text and translate it vs. translate the entire page. You can also change extension options to automatically show translation every time you highlight text.

For English-speaking people, problems of this kind are not very clear. However, try, for example, to go to a German forum and understand something there without speaking German. Or on the Russian-language forum. To quickly translate from an unfamiliar language, Google Translate is used. And it is completely broken on this forum and many other forums using Discourse.

Considering that Chrome / Chromium is the most popular browser, and Google Translate is the most popular machine translator, most of the audience that does not understand the language of the forum is cut off from the forum using Discourse.

No, this is definitely not a language confusion problem. Google translate has long been able to properly separate and translate this.
In my case, I checked it without even logging into the forum. In this case, only 1 language is used in the interface and content. And my interface language here is English.

Surprisingly, when I created this thread, I checked all the translation methods here and on forum.ghost.org. The translation did not work either there or here. Now I have checked forum.ghost.org again and the translation was possible with the help of the official plugin and with the help of the translator built into Chrome. Translation via google.translate.com also does not work. I try this site and the translation works unpredictably (the official plugin translates some pages and some not).

An interesting fact, if I am not logged into the forum, then the interface is shown to me in my system language and I cannot change it until I enter the forum under my account. If the problem of mixing languages really exists, then this behavior is also erroneous.

There are still problems with the google translate site (I already found questions about this problem here) and problems with the official google translate extension for browsers that do not have a built-in translator. This is less of a problem, but still a problem for me because I am not using Chrome, but using the Brave browser due to security issues.

At the moment, I can say that the official google translate plugin cannot translate this forum, but forum.ghost.org does translate without problems. Perhaps the matter is in what forum settings or styles.

I have not checked the entire list, but it is obvious that only a small part of these forums can be easily translated if the visitor has a Chromium browser installed (for example Brave) with the official google translate plugin. I have no doubt that some of the blame lies with this plugin, but it is absolutely useless to point google about this. A critical issue with the plugin only occurs with the Discourse engine (most Discourse forums, but not all) and discussions.apple.com forums.

I cannot yet draw such a conclusion based on all the data collected. After all, this plugin has no problems with any other forum and site engines (even those with a lot of JavaScript, for example NodeBB). I can only 100% say that Google will not solve this problem, even if it is on their side.

My aim is to open a PDF file, and use the extensions like Google Dictionary, dict.cc, Google Translator on this file. These extensions work like this: You select a word by double clicking (just selection is enough) and its description pops out immediately.

In JIRA, I have noticed that when one clicks to view an already uploaded PDF, the software brings the PDF in without opening a new tab, like a single page application does. I have tested Google dictionary and Google translator there, and they function pretty well. Thus, a possible way to deal with the issue would be to find an extension which runs the PDF like a single page application in a web page.

"Due to technical restrictions, you cannot select text and translate it by a shortcut in PDF files in any browser. Unfortunately, we can do nothing with this. However, in Google Chrome you can select text and translate it instantly from the context menu." ----matetranslate.com

I would recommend Read Aloud, a text-to-speech Chrome App. One of its awesome features is its built-in PDF viewer; it allows you to upload PDF files, then behaves as it would with a webpage. Alternatively, you can upload PDFs to Google Keep.

Human language translators carry the knowledge of different languages, allowing them to read foreign language documents on their own. For the rest of us, though, finding a tool to translate a document or web page into our native language represents an easier process than trying to learn a new language.

Foreign language translator tools are available in a variety of places on the Internet. But the most convenient option is to install a Chrome translate extension that will give you results directly in the Chrome web browser. Some of these extensions even help you when learning a new language.

When you encounter a web page in Chrome that uses a foreign language, you may see a popup window that offers to translate the page. If not, just right-click anywhere on the web page and left-click on Translate to English in the popup menu.

If you would prefer to translate the page into another language, click on the three vertical dots in the Google Translate window and pick Choose Another Language. Select the language you want to use from the drop-down menu that appears.

Additionally DeepL focuses on a smaller number of languages than some others, but, since the majority of online translators struggle with uncommon languages anyway, offering fewer languages than others may not be a significant disadvantage for the DeepL Translator extension.

ImTranslator provides standard translations of web pages and documents on the Internet, but it also offers a useful Back Translation feature, where you can translate your text, make editing changes, and then translate it back to determine the accuracy of your edits.

To achieve its translation results, the ImTranslator extension actually samples a few different free translator tools, using these comparisons to come up with the most accurate results. Think of it like crowdsourcing for digital translators.

This is an excellent tool for helping people learn a new language, as it allows you to quickly translate a single word in a foreign language text, helping you memorize it. Lingvanex also has a text to speech feature, so you can hear how the pronunciation of the word should sound in the foreign language. Phonetic transcriptions are available too, helping you learn the proper pronunciation for foreign words.

As with most translator extensions, Mate Translate works for entire web pages and highlighted text. But if you like watching foreign Netflix video through your Chrome browser, you can use this extension to translate the subtitles in the Netflix window.

Should you want to learn more about speaking and reading other languages, Mate Translate provides phonetic transcriptions of words. It even offers an audio feature that reads the translated text aloud, helping you learn how the words sound with the proper accent.

The Quick Translator extension provides fast results by closely integrating itself with the Chrome browser. Just highlight a word or a text string on the page that you want to translate. Right-click on the text, and the Quick Translator option will appear in the popup menu, allowing you to select it.

The Readlang Web Reader extension serves two functions well, as it can translate individual words for dozens of languages, and it can help those attempting to learn a new language. Readlang provides a number of tools that can help with memorization of individual words.

Reverso does better than the majority of Chrome extensions for translation in terms of recognizing the context in which words appear, creating more accurate translations of less formally written text.

When you want a quick translation of a single word on a web page displayed in a foreign language, TransOver allows you to hover the cursor over the word, causing the translation to pop onto the screen.

For those wanting help with learning a foreign language, TransOver allows users to set up time delays for the hover feature, so you can try to figure out the word on your own before the translation appears on the screen. You also have the option of disabling the translation on certain web pages to help with your learning process.

The extension has hotkeys too, simplifying the process of making translations on the fly. One of the hotkey functions will open a separate popup text window in your Chrome browser. Enter any words or a full sentence that you want to translate into the text box. XTranslate will give you the translation along with quick links to the dictionary function, so you can learn more about the foreign language words, if desired.
