I'm now in a state where nothing is working right. If I make any
change (rating or deletion) the utility sends the same message to the
server, but it just includes old stuff. The new changes I make aren't
in the message. Stopping and re-starting the utility doesn't help. It
just sends a message about these same three programs.

If you make changes to those specific programs, do they show up?

For the application to consider a program worth reporting about, these conditions must be met:
 - it must have been given a rating
 - it must have originated from the spokenword.org RSS feed

When that list of programs is complete, it then checks the previously sent list for any missing ones.  These are assumed to have been deleted and are added to the report with the remove=1 flag.

-Norm.

PS.  Are you making changes to programs in your spokenword collection, or are these programs under another podcast feed?  This would trigger the generation of a new report, but given the conditions above, the report would not show any changes.

If condition 2 was removed, could the ratings being updated on spoken word if a matching program could be found? that would be ideal. Already I'm subscribing to programs that I like on itunes directly that I found on spoken word.

I'm not sure we want to send all rated podcasts.  Then again, I don't think ratings are used much for podcasts so we might be OK.

So it sound like its technically feasible? What's the rationale behind not wanting to? That would be a functionality that I would find useful. And of course I'm only speaking for myself, but podcasts are the only thing I am interested in rating. What other types of programs are people listening to/rating? I need to get in on that!

I think that's a bit outside of the scope for now, Alan. But I'll keep
it on the requested-feature list.

Thanks to a diagnosis by Norm, I found the problem. It was an error in
the generation of ID3 tags inside The Conversations Network's own
content-management system. As of tonight's rebuild of all MP3 files,
the error *should* be corrected for all IT Conversations and other
channel's programs. I'd be interested in knowing if anyone encounters
a problem with any of The Conversations Network's programs downloaded
*after* 4am PDT on 4/29/09.

Norm: Is it possible to make the iTunes Connector more tolerant of
these errors in ID3 structure? If I can make the mistake, others can,
too.

It's certainly possible, but I'd like to wait and see if testing shows others with the same problem.

-Norm.
