Fired up v.2.

I love the concept. Getting ratings back to the servers from iTunes
has been something I've wanted for many years (and tried to get
working myself at one point). Some initial observations:

- At first it didn't push the ratings to the server for a show. Does
it need to be constantly running, or can it "catch up" from what
happened the last time it was running? I ask because, while it was
running, maybe I didn't have it setup correctly initially (username/
password, etc). Upon testing the past day, it doesn't appear to
"catch up" if it wasn't running when the change happened, that would
be nice to make sure it stays in sync regardless.

- This will make "collections" more interesting and useful. I can see
where I would bounce between SpokenWord.org and iTunes to help manage
the flow of programs. Not sure if I'll trip into the social sharing
part, but as a personal tool it looks like it could add value to me.
Without this, I'm doubtful I would do much with collections on
SpokenWord.

"Gripes" -- I know it is "alpha", but...

- Just running for a couple of hours on my Mac, the "Real memory" used
hovered at 1GB. I ran it for a couple of days until I noticed my
machine was slow as molasses, when I found it used 2GB of "real
memory." Obviously, this needs to skinny down over time.

- Does the password need to stay in clear text AND in the log for each
message? I changed it so it didn't matter, but seeing clear passwords
just makes me shiver.

Cheers,

I *believe* (Norm can clarify) that the app does indeed catch up and
reports ratings that occurred while it wasn't running.

A memory leak would indeed be a serious problem. I'll start tracking
it on my own system. Others?

Are you running the Windows or OS X version?

Norm can remove it from the log for the next version. We're using HTTP
Basic Authentication so the password is going to be sent in the clear
for every request. We can probably encrypt it. Gotta think about
what's best for that.
