Hello, Curators.

The basic Curation functionality has now been activated on SpokenWord.org. I encourage each of you to create a curation of your own and to report any and all problems, confusions, etc., ASAP. This is alpha-test code, and I'm sure there are some problems. I need your help in finding them.

To create a curation, see the instructions on our wiki: http://wiki.conversationsnetwork.org/wiki/SpokenWord.org:Curation

If you have already created a curation and want to "turn it on," follow step #8 in those instructions. (It's a new step.)

What you will see is a subtly different display of Curations over other collections. For example, your reviews of each program are always displayed. There are at least a dozen smaller differences, too. What you don't yet see is the part of the code that has not yet been published. Once we're convinced that the first parts are working, we'll turn on the new homepage. This is where your Curations will be featured.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Doug and fellow curators,

One of the general site changes I noticed is the display of how many
other podcast episodes are in the Podcast show, for example, "Scott
Sigler Audiobooks (326 more...)". At least I think it's new, Cool
stuff.

When I was creating the curation I somehow missed the step on rating
each show with a star, but that was nicely pointed out when I tried to
Convert it to a Curation. After rating each of the shows, the Convert
to a Curation worked; I see my reviews written in the comments, along
with more details about the episodes shown instead of just the title.
Haven't noticed any problems as of yet.

You can check out my curated collection, "Awesome Video Game Podcasts"
here:
http://www.spokenword.org/playlist/4873
Feedback is welcome, if you notice something I missed do please let me
know.

In a related topic, I was thinking that the curated collections could
be changed each week or 2, adding new episodes and removing some or
all of the ones already featured? Would like to hear other curators
thoughts regarding how frequently featured episodes are added/removed,
otherwise the curated collection might appear to stagnate?

I've heard from a lot of people about this. My guess is that there will be a range of Curation types. Some will be static and rarely change. Others will have new programs added quite frequently. I think most models (and other variations) make sense.

Hi,

I am completely lost.

I am following instructions on http://wiki.conversationsnetwork.org/wiki/SpokenWord.org:Curation but I just do not understand them.

For example, what does "You can't use your default collection as a curation." in step one means?

Please ignore this. Found it in the FAQ. :)

Hi,

A couple of comments:

1) If only there was one-click way to open a collection. If only it appeared when I hover "my spokenword" (or maybe "collections"). Now I have to click "my spokenword > collections > (title) > (title)" to open it.
2) I have just submitted about 5 comments to shows in my collection, and the comments just dissapeared. I commented again and made sure I clicked submit, and again sometimes the comment was just not there.
3) "Add your comment here..." text should be deleted from the comment text box when user clicks it.

And here is my curation (needs more work):

Regards,

Željko

I also noticed this, it seems like a bug, had to click submit twice
before the comment showed up. Though this maybe a bug in the general
SpokenWord.org site not just curations?
Incase it's browser specific, I'm using Camino 2.0 on OSX, that is a
browser that uses Mozilla's Gecko rendering engine so it might also
happen on Firefox as well.

Thanks, guys. I'll look into the comment bug this weekend. Sorry about that!

Hi all, just created my curation "Memoir" (with only 3 programs so far
as I'm starting from scratch). Two issues I've encountered:

1. As others have noted, it's not intuitive how to comment on a
program and took me a while to figure out.
2. I tried to change the order of programs to highlight the Starlee
Kine program at the top, and the widget lets me move it, but after I
click 'Save' always puts it back at the bottom. ?

On the issue of how often the curation should change, I'm hoping to
add one or two programs a week; not sure if I'll delete any, although
comments from others on the quality of the shows might influence that.

Doug, thanks for putting up the link to the other curations; I'm
excited to see the range of topics and to subscribe to some myself!

Thanks for this,
Em
