An 8-point scale developed by UNITE, a non-partisan project. It is designed to help individuals recognize and move away from "contempt" (the lower numbers) and toward "dignity" (the higher numbers).
1. Violence
"They are a danger; we must eliminate them before they eliminate us."

Dehumanization
"They are not even human; they are subhuman or evil."

Polarization
"They are the problem; we are the solution. They don’t belong."

Judgment
"We are better than they are. They are morally inferior."

Respect
"I disagree with you, but I will listen and treat you with respect."

"I want to understand why you feel that way. Let's find common ground."

"We have differences, but we can work together to solve problems."
