If you've tried to log onto the NaNoWriMo website at all today you'll
have discovered that the website is, as their twitter feed referenced
earlier today, "acting wonky."
For most of the morning there was an error message that the website
was overloaded, leading me to beleive that the masses of NaNo
participants rushing in to log on had overwhelmed the servers. Then,
for a short while this afternoon, the home page would open, but it
wouldn't accept log-ons, or allow access to many of the other pages.
About that same time, I received an email from HQ on the status of the
outage and pointing me to their Twitter feed.
Seems that the error message from this morning was itself in error.
Here's the what the website has to say now:
***
In the wee hours of October 1, after running like a brave champion,
one of our two database servers, Lekempti, had what looks to be a
very grave hardware failure.
Lekempti is off-line now, and is getting new android guts installed.
In the meantime, we're working on installing back-ups and relaunching
the site with a single, smaller server, the adorable Djimmah.
Until we get Lekempti back online, things will be pokey. We apologize
for the inconvenience, and look forward to the resumption of
awesomeness soon.
In the meantime, we invite you to browse the exciting NaNoWriMo donor
goodies and ogle the devilishly good-looking models in the NaNoWriMo
store.
Your friends,
The NaNoWriMo staff
