Inserting an Ad Hoc Recipient with the following actions means:

APPROVE = Routing stops at that person until they have reviewed+approved the proposal.

ACKNOWLEDGE = Routing continues through the usual steps (Chair to Dean to SPO to Provost, etc.) but cannot be submitted to the sponsor (by SPO) until that person has reviewed+acknowledged the proposal.

FYI = Routing continues to the usual steps and may be submitted to the sponsor (by SPO) regardless of whether or not this FYI Ad Hoc Recipient has reviewed the proposal.

All three options generate an Action List Reminder (email) to the recipient. The recipient must respond to the email and/or log into Kuali to determine what action is required of them. The Action List indicates what's required (Approve, Acknowledge, or FYI). You must OPEN things you've been asked to APPROVE. You can Acknowledge and confirm receipt of FYIs from your Action List if you don't need to review the record in detail.
