You Voted, now what?? How do I stay involved?
“Young
people are among the more vulnerable members of our society, and they are
also among the least heard. Youth
media in an election year gives young people the opportunity to weigh in on
the very real issues and policies that affect them—providing that
editors and the audience listen. (Kelly Nuxol)”
This next
section is dedicated to resources created by civically engaged youth and
youth allies from around the country. Whether you could vote or not, you
have a voice. Inform yourself, voice your opinions, get involved, tell
your story!
Future5000.com – Best connector to
the local youth movement in most states, is a directory of progressive youth
organizations across the US.
Future
5000 is the virtual spinal cord of today's youth
movement.
Genvote.org - Generation Vote members are united
in the belief that the young people most directly affected by the social,
economic and environmental policies up for debate this year are the natural
visionaries and leaders of social change. Grounded in this principle, we
aim to move the issues and perspectives of impacted young people from the
periphery to the very center of the national dialogue.
Wiretapmag.org – Best magazine
covering youth issues and the youth movement — WireTap is a national news and culture
magazine by and for socially conscious youth. Our online community promotes
social justice, inspires action and gives young people a voice in the
media.
CampusActivism.org – Most comprehensive
connector site on campus activism. Good calendars of events.
YoungVoter.net - The League of Young Voters Education
Fund (LYVEF)
empowers young people
nationwide to participate in the democratic process – with a
focus on non-college youth from low-income communities and communities of
color. LYVEF makes civic engagement relevant by
meeting young people where they are, working on issues that affect their
lives, and providing them with tools, training, and support to become
viable players in the civic process.
CenterForSocialMedia.org - The
Center for Social Media showcases and analyzes strategies to use media as
creative tools for public knowledge and action. It focuses on social
documentaries for civil society and democracy, and on the public media
environment that supports them.
Do
you know of more non-partisan (not advocating for people to vote for a
certain candidate) youth empowerment resources around the Twin Cities? If
so, please send them to ebac...@spnn.org.
Thanks!

Pay it Forward
Foundation Grant
The Pay it Forward
Foundation offers students the opportunity to identify what they consider
to be the challenges of their communities. They tackle such problems as
homelessness, pollution, youth violence, literacy issues, the loneliness
experienced by long-term hospital and nursing home patients, and the
alienation of today's at-risk youth from the community. The Pay It Forward
Foundation provides seed money for such worthwhile projects.
Your school, church
or community youth group may apply for this $500 mini-grant
to fund a one time project with a Pay It Forward
focus. Applications will be accepted anytime by email to gra...@payitforwardfoundation.com.
