HBR - The Big Idea

Be a giver, just not to a fault.

LET’S GO Caret
HBR's Second Big Idea: Generosity Burnout
HBR's Second Big Idea: Generosity Burnout
By Adi Ignatius, Editor in Chief of HBR

Back in October, Harvard Business Review launched a new experiment with its first Big Idea—a series of articles, case studies, assessments, and events around the research from Francesca Gino on what she calls Rebel Talent.

It was a big hit! Thank you for the overwhelmingly positive response and some great suggestions for improvements and topics for future Big Ideas. We’re pleased to announce our next Big Idea, launching next week, with Wharton professor Adam Grant and Wharton researcher Reb Rebele called Generosity Burnout.

Grant and Rebele will present fresh research that punctures conventional wisdom about giving your time, energy, and expertise to others at work. We all want to help others, but it turns out that you can be too selfless, and you may hurt the very people you’re trying to help. Grant and Rebele will show you how to avoid burnout and be a better giver at work.

The weeklong series includes a new long-form feature, a webinar with Grant and HBR editor Amy Bernstein, a video explainer, an assessment to help you determine if you’re at risk of generosity burnout, and audio postcards from executives sharing their experiences of learning how to be generous, but not to a fault.

Generosity Burnout launches on January 23rd. Watch for something new every day that week. Better yet, sign up today and we’ll send you email updates every time something new goes live.

Enjoy,
Adi
