All, we have our conference call this Thurs 6/20 at 1 pm PDT. You all have been working diligently on generating items for the IT and Teen forms. Let me ask you: what do want to accomplish on this call? What agenda items are important to cover?

Can we talk about the motor component of the infant form a bit? We don't have to finalize but perhaps a discussion about preliminary thoughts. Thanks.

I'm confirming I will be on the conference call with you all in about 1.5 hours. I agree with Heather and Tara's posts that we need to talk about autism items -- how these will be handled -- and also the infant items including motor. Also I want to be clear about whether we will have separate item sets for infants vs toddlers, and whether there will be just primary caregiver ratings instead of home/day care environments.  Diane

All, here are the primary agenda items for our call today:

1. Check in on the preliminary project timeline (see below)
2. Discuss how we'll implement autism-specific measurement in the SPM-2
3. Discuss the motor component of infant behavior for the IT form.

Preliminary timeline:
June 15:
  • Send the infant items that you have been considering/comtemplating/researching/identifying to Tara.
  • Send the teen items that you believe should be included in the teen version to Diane.
July 1:
  • RE SPM and SPM-P:  Send any suggested edits or a list of any item issues that need to be considered/discussed/changed to Diana (SPM-P) and Heather (SPM).
July 8:
  • Tara and Diane to send out the compiled infant and teen lists to the group.

Between July 8 and August 15:
  • Phone meetings and online work on the items.

After August 15:
  • WPS editorial review of items, formatting of forms.
By early Sept:
  • Authors review and comment on form format.
  • Everything finalized.

One other thing for Spm- can we discuss at some point- moving some items from the environments forms into main form? I think we may be losing important info when people don't do the environment forms.

Sounds great Heather. This is much needed.
We want to be sure to NOT get rid of the environment forms though.

Hi team,
This was a great conference call today. All is very exciting.

I am in the middle of preparing for AOTA's School Based Specialty conference in July, and working on other projects including with my colleagues on Tools for Infants, which had been scheduled before the timeline for the SPM 2 was submitted.

I will have my schedule more freed up this fall.

Tara,
What might work in light of Cheryl's concern (about my adding items that you may have removed when compiling your list), would be for you to include at the bottom of your list, a section of those items you had decided would not work.
That way, when i look over the entire list and suggest additional items to add, I won't be including any items that were already suggested.
I think this will be efficient and speed up the process.

Diane,
I think the same suggestion stated above re the infants, will also speed up the teen process.

Thanks for understanding!

Diana

All, great call today - here are my notes:

Infant motor items: not a good idea to have items that cover both ends of the over responsive/underresponsive spectrum - need separate items for this.
- need to add more under responsive items for all forms
- also important to stick with our 4 point frequency item rating scale, for psychometrics and for backwards compatibility with our previous forms

IT age ranges: 3-6 mo, 7-12 mo, 13-30 mo
- each of these ranges needs different items
- in research phase, all items can be presented on a single form to all raters, with an additional response option "child is not developmentally advanced enough to do this behavior" (or some such)

The group did not see value in a clinician-rated IT form, if the only norms were from clinical samples

Teen form: items will be similar to school-age SPM, but need self report version

Autism kids: current SPM/SPM-P tend to get "maxed out" by autism kids with severe sensory involvement = all scales pegged at very high t-scores, no pattern of strengths and weaknesses
- we need a large, diverse, well-selected autism sample that can be grouped into mild, moderate, and severe
- need to start making contacts now with sites that hopefully can deliver ADOS-2 diagnosed kids, even as few as 5-10 kids
- we'll make sure our item set covers the symptom spectrum of autism, but we won't have separate autism scales/forms.

OK, I've just sent a new poll with 8 possible times during the week after Labor Day. And during this call, whenever we schedule it, I would like to talk about the future conference calls being with just a subset of the author group. The understandable difficulties with finding a time that six busy people across the country can talk, are starting to slow down the project.

All I've made several unsuccessful tries now at scheduling a conference call.

I would ask that you consider an arrangement where the author group designates two representatives who will participate in routine conference calls, speak for the entire group, and report back the group.

This worked quite well for finalizing the SPM-2 contract, where Tara and Diane took part in the conference call representing the entire group.

There will still be opportunities for us to meet as an entire group, certainly at AOTA, and probably in several calls through the year, but when the project is a stage where more frequent calls are needed, it will really slow us down to have to wait to find a time where all six of us can talk.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this - Dave

Team let's try to set up a monthly call time that works on all of our schedules. Cheryl offered Mondays and Thursdays - I can do either of those days.

I'm thinking it should be the first Monday or first Thursday of each month. Let me offer six possible times (all PDT), and see if we could get agreement on one of these, as a monthly protected time for our SPM-2 phone conference.

First Monday: 9a, 10a, or 11a
First Thursday: 9a, 10a, or 11a

Thanks!

Update on time: 1pm PDT on the First Thursday of every months seems to work for many of us. Can we have everyone confirm this?

Unfortunately this will not work as I would not be able to attend on 1st Thursdays in Sept, Oct, or Nov because I will be traveling those days -- it's an unusual year.

Could we do the second Thursdays at 1 PM Pacific time?  That would work for me.  That would be Sept 12, Oct 10, Nov 14, and Dec 12.  The first Thursdays really are so difficult they would be impossible for me.

That would work for me, Oct 10 I would need to get off by 4:45 eastern - I have a special speaker coming in at 5- but other than yet- yes that works fine for me.

All, just a reminder that our next SPM-2 conference call is scheduled for:

Thursday, November 14, 1pm Pacific (4pm Eastern)

Conference Dial-in Number: (605) 475-4000

Participant Access Code: 151628#

It may be a short call - I'm not sure how much progress I will have made on the Teen items by then. But at least we have the latest iteration of the infant items to talk about.

I will be on the call. Thanks Dave.
