Dear SPLASH users,

It is my pleasure to announce the long-overdue release of SPLASH v1.14.0. This is intended to be the last major release in the 1.x series, to prepare for the forthcoming release of SPLASH v2.0 (with essentially the same functionality but a new backend to replace PGPLOT).

Main new features in v1.14.0 are:
* f/F can be used in interactive mode to `flip' between rendered quantities
* The environment variable SPLASH_DEFAULTS can be used to set system-wide defaults (over-ridden by local files)
* Support for reading H5PART format (including new Fortran interface to H5part libraries)
* multiple-file GADGET read implemented
* Better directory/code layout, easier PGPLOT linking
* Implemented exact solution option for arbitrary functions of x and t
* Error bars can be plotted in both x and y simultaneously
* Arbitrary function can be plotted as a "shape" (from the g menu, more flexible in terms of line style etc)
* Particle coordinates no longer have to be in the first ndim columns
* Better MHD shock exact solutions
* Minor improvements to calc quantities menu/interface

Download the tar file from the usual place:
http://users.monash.edu.au/~dprice/splash/download/

or if you already have a checked-out subversion copy, simply type

"svn update" and "make"

in the splash directory to get and compile the latest (doing this preserves any local modifications you may have made). Note that there may be some problems if you are updating from an old version, in particular that the directory structure has changed, so many files have moved around. If there are no local modifications I recommend deleting the old copy and checking out a new version, i.e.:

rm -r splash
svn co https://svn-vre.its.monash.edu.au/mathsci/splash

------------------------------------------------------------
Obviously, please let me know if you encounter any problems, or if there is a known bug that has not been addressed by this release (I tried to go through all email requests). And I am always open to feature requests...

Happy splash-ing!

Daniel
