Thetechnology for extensions in Firefox is, to a large extent, compatible with the extension API supported by Chromium-based browsers (such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Opera, Vivaldi). In most cases, extensions written for Chromium-based browsers run in Firefox with just a few changes.

Discover what extensions can do before building your first extension. Learn about the anatomy of an extension and get an overview of the extension development and publication workflow, Firefox style. Explore a little deeper with a comprehensive selection of example extensions that you can run right in Firefox.

Get detailed information on the concept that underpin extensions from an overview of the JavaScript API, through content scripts, match patterns, working with files, internationalization, and content security policy, to more advanced subjects such as native messaging, using the devtools APIs, and native manifests.

From patterns you'll regularly use such as work with the Tabs API and adding a button to the toolbar to more advanced topics such as intercepting HTTP requests and working with contextual identities, you'll find a range of tutorials to get you started.

Get comprehensive details about the methods, properties, types, and events for all the JavaScript APIs. There is also detailed information about the compatibility of each API with the major browsers. Most reference pages also include coding examples and links to the extension examples that use the API.

The directions they give says to put the extension in "/Library/Application Support/Mozilla/Extensions/..." It is my understanding that Firefox extensions must be installed in the users' home folder which would be "/Users///Library/Application Support/Mozilla/Extensions/..." I could be wrong, but that is where I would start to try to figure this out. If it turns out that is the correct location, then distributing the file won't be as simple as making a .pkg and letting it install.

In this example, I am installing the Keeper Password Manager firefox extension. You can find the key by going into about:support within the Firefox address bar, and scroll down to Add-ons. To the right of each Add-on will be the ID - Keep in mind that you'll need to install the extension first in order for it to show up within about:support

MDN web docs will onboard you to the basics. With tutorials from simple user interface changes to complex event handling, MDN covers the structure and API behind extensions. Once you know the fundamentals, come back here to learn how Firefox takes extension development to the next level.

With the version Firefox 109 release, you added this new button without the option to change its position or move into the overflow area. Please let use move it. I can remove/hide almost every other UI element in the browser, why not this?

Currently, when you go to the 'Customize Toolbar' page in the latest Nightly, everything can be moved around, except for the Extensions button. I love the new implementation that Extensions button opens as a popup similar to other browsers. In the current stable, it just opens the Firefox Extensions page which is just useless. Please make the Extensions button movable.

I really don't like the new extensions button, it just clutters the browser, I want a minimal and easy to use UI. I thought I could at least move the button to the overflow menu, but no, it can't be moved or removed at all. This is extremely inconvenient. "Just let us choose what buttons are displayed or not.

It doesn't make much sense that you have next to complete customization power over your toolbar except for this button. I suggest it be made removable like every other feature. Additionally, it shouldn't be default to appear on the toolbar.

The latest update has added the Extensions button to the Toolbar. This was completely unnecessary as this option was already available in the drop down menu to the side. As well as with the Keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+A). It is also not possible to remove this button from my toolbar with the Customize option for some reason. Even though I can easily remove every other option easily.

I have tried to edit my toolbar but that icon can't be moved, removed, or hidden and it's where my bookmarks icon usually is which is messing with my work flow a lot. I work very fast and have years of muscle memory of clicking the first icon at the top right to open bookmarks and now I keep opening extensions.
