The Jelly Lab was a setting featured in Minion Rush that was inspired by the Minions producing jam and jelly in Despicable Me 2, and it was introduced in update 2.0.1 on 26 August 2014 at 11:50 AM. It was formerly the main feature of the game. Players had to collect the required number (instead of skipping by spending tokens) of fruits in order to move to the next area, receive certain prizes, or gain higher multiplier. It is, unfortunately, removed in the 5-Year Celebration update, along with Downtown.
The Jelly Lab was similar to Gru's Lab, and all locations in the game were included in this "lab". There were many levels and Jelly Machines which the player's minion could stand on, and when clicking into either one of level, the player saw which task need to be done in that level and start running. In version 2.0.1 on August 26, 2014, the update brought a new home base, Jelly Lab, at the beginning of the game, which allowed the player to collect fruits from 8 locations (17 at the end) to create the tastiest Jelly ever.
To build up points in a run, the multiplier can be boosted by committing despicable actions (smashing other minions, breaking through objects through the Freeze Ray, or being an evil minion when activating PX-41), and then the points can increase faster.
Gameloft's ninth and largest update ever for Despicable Me: Minion Rush brings a completely revamped player experience by adding The Jelly Lab, a new interface showing the player's progression through the game. Even more content from the Despicable Me films is introduced in this update, as players can experience the Minions in their home, Gru's Lab, and help them make more jelly to unlock new areas and challenges. In addition, players can advance sequentially through each level in The Jelly Lab, and take advantage of two new costumes - Lucy Disguise and Jelly Jar Minion.
Despicable Me: Minion Rush is an auto-run platformer starring the minion characters from the 2010 animated comedy film Despicable Me. The player controls Dave through different levels with gameplay typical for the genre. By tilting the device (mobile platforms) or swiping left or right Dave can be moved between lanes as he runs automatically and dodges obstacles. Swiping up performs a jump and down a slide. Some levels have gliding sections where the minion can be steered without using lanes. There are two other runners, Carl and Jerry, that need to be bought and sometimes can be tried for free for a single level. Dave has access to more costumes that affect his abilities, Carl can run faster and for Jerry power-ups last longer.
Levels need to be completed in one go unless tokens are spent to continue. Along the way the minion can collect bananas, the basic currency in the game. Levels have up to three objectives that can be completed, rewarded with one piece of fruit for each objective, used in the story to power the jelly machines of the jelly lab. At least one fruit is required to advance to the next level, but a large amount to move on to the next area. Bananas are used to buy and upgrade items (up to ten times) and power-ups. Some of them can only be unlocked with tokens, the premium currency. Tokens need to be bought with real money and a small amount can be earned through achievements, by logging in daily or by participating in events. There are also prize pods that can provide puzzle pieces to unlock costumes. When items are unlocked they start to appear in levels. Items and power-ups include a banana vacuum that collects the bananas in an easier way, a freeze ray to freeze and break through all obstacles for a while, Gru's rocket (catch bananas in a short side-scrolling mini-game flying behind a car), Mega Minion (stomp through everything in your path), Fluffy Unicorn (catch bananas in a short vertically-scrolling mini-game flying on the back of a unicorn), Minion Launcher, Minion Shield, Banana Splitter, PX41 serum (become invincible for a short while) and Moon (a short bonus-level on the moon to collect stars and earn more points). There are four props to unlock that appear in mini-games: a minion glider, a snowboard, a skateboard and a BMX bike.
Minions are supposed to be despicable, so other minions that are often found in the levels can be knocked off the track. This fills up a multiplier gradually. It is also increased permanently by completing levels and equipping costumes that are also upgraded through bananas. Multiplayer is supported through Minion Races where up to three online players race each other on tracks while using different gadgets to sabotage each other or gain advantages. These include energy soda, a fart gun, a boom rocket, a lipstick taser, a jelly gun, a beach ball shield etc. Equipment is assigned prior to starting a race and additional equipment is sold in packs in exchange for tokens. It is possible to challenge friends and participate in temporary challenge events for additional rewards. The game is updated regularly to add special missions in separate locations. The special missions use an energy system that needs some time to recharge.
The game has been taken in an entirely different direction than before, courtesy of The Jelly Lab. It's added a progression system, with players having to collect fruit from various locations in order to make the tastiest jelly ever.
Despicable Me: Minion Rush is highly addicting and if you're anything like me, you've probably spent several hours running your minion through different stages in order to collect bananas, Gru tokens, and fruit. The further you get into the Jelly Labs, the harder the challenges become. Luckily that doesn't mean you need to spend real world money in order to advance. From gift code combinations to using your Gru tokens wisely, here are our top tips, hints, and cheats for advancing in Minion Rush, no real money required!
Minion Rush isn't like other games such as Candy Crush. You have an infinite amount of runs and for the most part, getting a super long run doesn't do anything but boost your top score. You also only need one fruit item to unlock the next level so if you've already got that, don't waste your precious Gru tokens. They are always better spent on costumes, items, and upgrades.
A mysterious aircraft steals a highly potent mutagen known as PX-41 from a secret laboratory in the Arctic Circle. Silas Ramsbottom, director of the Anti-Villain League (AVL), sends agent Lucy Wilde to recruit former supervillain Gru. Gru is forcibly brought to the AVL headquarters and asked by Ramsbottom to help them track down the culprit and recover the mutagen. However, Gru refuses, claiming that he is now a legitimate father and owner of a jelly-producing business. Later, Dr. Nefario, Gru's friend and assistant, quits to accept a more villainous job offer; this causes a reluctant Gru to decide to work with the AVL after all. He and Lucy are stationed at the Paradise Shopping Mall, with a cupcake store as their front.
Lucy, having decided to disobey orders and return home to Gru, arrives at the party right after Gru leaves. Realizing that Lucy and Gru are working for the AVL, El Macho kidnaps her. Dr. Nefario witnesses this and informs Gru of the situation. Gru infiltrates El Macho's fortress with two of his own disguised Minions, but the evil Minions see through the disguise and attack them. Meanwhile, Kevin breaks into Gru's house and attacks Margo and Agnes. They lure him to Gru's lab, where Dr. Nefario arrives with an antidote and turns Kevin normal again. Dr. Nefario puts the antidote in Gru's jelly reserves, and he and the girls hurry to Gru's aid. Gru, Dr. Nefario, the girls, and the surviving Minions use jelly guns to restore all the other evil Minions to their normal state. El Macho threatens to kill Lucy, and uses the PX-41 to become a monster himself, but is defeated by Gru and Dr. Nefario.
Gru starts to rescue Lucy from El Macho's TNT-loaded shark rocket, but El Macho's pet chicken Pollito launches it, sending them toward a volcano. Lucy accepts Gru's invitation for a date, and they jump into the ocean before the rocket explodes in the volcano. One hundred and forty-seven dates later, Gru and Lucy get married, giving Margo, Edith, and Agnes a mother. As everyone prepares to take a picture together, an evil minion appears.
As with the first film, which did not have a theatrical release in China, the film's distributor Universal Pictures had troubles releasing the sequel.[53] When it was reported in July 2013 that the film had been denied a theatrical release in China, then the second-largest film market in the world, some analysts attributed this to the protection of locally produced animation.[54][55] There were also rumors that the film's release was banned in China because the film's minions too much resembled former Chinese president Jiang Zemin.[56] China's Film Bureau was "furious" about the negative comments, stating that the film was not submitted for censorship approval.[57] In fact, there was reportedly a "commercial conflict" between Universal and Edko Films, the film's local distributor, over which titles are to be imported.[58] Edko had decided that the film "would not do well in China and decided against using one of the precious quota slots for the film."[57] In December 2013, a few weeks after the Universal Pictures' announcement that it would open a Beijing office, it was reported that Despicable Me 2 would be theatrically released in China on January 10, 2014.[56]
