With Windows 7 and Windows 8, when you right-click the desktop and select screen resolution, you would see the dialogue box below which highlights the monitor model names. With Windows 10, when you right-click the desktop you no longer can access this like you could on Windows 7 and Windows 8. (See Figure 1.)

Unlike the graphics card driver, which requires a specific driver for full functionality, usually a dedicated Display Driver is not required.

For Dell plug and play monitors, a dedicated Windows 10 driver for the display that is connected to the system is not needed. The Windows 10 operating system will automatically read the monitor Extended display identification data (EDID). If your monitor calibration software or other software needs a specific monitor INF file, you may install the monitor Windows 8/8.1 driver into Windows 10.

Does the Windows 10 Device Manager show that the monitor is connected by displaying it as, "Generic PNP Monitor"? (Yes/No)
Do the computer and monitor allow the monitors native/prime resolution? (Yes/No)
If using a touch monitor, does touch function? (Yes/No)

The following displays do have WHQL certified display drivers for Windows 10 available on the Dell Support/Drivers and Downloads In the Browse for a product box, click View Products, Select Monitors and Projectors, then Select Monitors, then select your display model. Any drivers for your display will be in the Drivers and downloads section:

In many laptops that also have AMD/NVIDIA graphics, the output from this graphics solution is routed out through the Intel graphics. To deliver support for this (switchable) configuration, the manufacturer had to develop a custom version of the intel HD Graphics driver that included the modification necessary. If your notebook is configured this way, you cannot use the generic Intel HD Graphics driver package; you must get a customized version from HP. If they don't provide one for Windows 10, you may be out of luck...

I have exactly the same problem with intel graphics hd 4000 except I get blue screen in the end saying stop code VIDEO TDR FAILURE what failed :igdkm64.sys and the only way I can use windows i need to go to safe mode and uninstall or disab the intel graphics hd 4000 driver so I can use windows normally HELP Please

Now, The Intel Graphics 3000 Drivers are replaced by basic Microsoft Drivers and I only have 2 options in resolution viz, 1024x768 and 800x600, Further I can't change brightness.

Whenever I try to install Intel Graphics Driver, screen turns black and I have to reinstall the Windows.

As you said us to install -79000/sp78724.exe , -79000/sp78724.exe , -79500/sp79059.exe , -79500/sp79059.exe , etc . These but our screen is not getting on right the screen is showing black screen we cannot bo anything at that time then how can we install these??

The only indication I have is that the computer did not go to sleep when I close the lid, my theory is that the lid detector is somewhat faulty and that it was stuck in the close position, disconnecting the screen. I have no idea if this is the problem but if it is it seems I unstuck it. The PC still refuse to go to sleep when I close it but at least it's stuck in the open position now.

It was working well until windows updated the Intel HD graphics automatically. using a secondary display I uninstalled the driver and as long as I prevent windows updates from updating the driver I can have a screen without being able to change the brightness or resolution. I also installed manufacturer's recommended driver which was for 2016 but it didn't help either.

I even installed Ubuntu OS just to make sure that the problem is caused by driver incompatibility with windows 10 and as I expected, everything was fine on Ubuntu and I could change screen resolution and brightness.

I was convinced this was a hardware problem, maybe a faulty CPU or Optimus mux chip and was about to throw a good laptop out because of this problem, thankfully I found a solution after weeks of searching and head scratching.

My laptop is Lenovo G50-80. As explained here, I also can't use the laptop without uninstalling intel drivers and as they update automatically, the laptop is only usable without internet connection due to this issue.

So your kind support is highly appreciated ASAP.

Best Regards,
Saliya Pathirana

Windows 10 update changed screen resolution and eliminated original screen resolution options. Options are now limited to 3 and do not allow 1600x900 max resolution of my display. AMD Radeon 4500 driver is updated but, apparently does not support Windows 10. Is there another driver that I can download for free to replace AMD Radeon 4500? Is there a workaround other than doing a system restore daily or reverting back to Windows 7 Home Premium?

I'm glad it worked for you. Mine was also wierd because if I went through control panel, device manager, it would show the ATI Radeon (new version) but if I went through right click desktop, display settings, display adapter settings, I thought it was showing a basic Microsoft adapter (maybe I'm imagining things). I also read somewhere that some people started experiencing the issue after a C++ security update - I tried uninstalling it but it didn't help me.

Thanks WadeT! I chatted online with Microsoft today (11/26/17) and their solution was to pay for support or email me some free options. I opted for the free options which were worth what I paid for them. I found the solution that worked, here, by way of google. I have an HP laptop DV7 and I hadn't turned it on for a week. After booting it up and using it for about a half hour, I heard a weird chime and my resolution changed. When I used WadeT's solution I heard the same chime when the old driver was reinstalled by Windows. Btw, let Windows tell you when it's done updating the driver. Don't panic. The screen will go dark several times and change a few windows before it stops and tells you it's completed the update.

I work in personal finance. As a way of expressing my appreciation for your help, I would like to share what I know with you for free so that, when you reach my age, you will be financially independent. Please feel free to contact me at abke...@gmail.com or 914-563-+4740 (Cell/Text).

Fujitsu dont make finding drivers terribly easy. Used the Intel Graphics driver from the Downloads area for a TX1310 M3 and got the resolution back. Thing is it was only in the last week the resoution went south

My screen resolution suddenly decreased. I use (legal) win 10 for 3 years, reinstalled about half years ago. Last week my screen suddenly turned to black and then it came back with a lower resolution. Since then I cannot fix it, tried a lot of things.

Then I checked the default properties where I saw (and I don't know if it was different before the problem but I guess) Processor, DAC, Adapter, BIOS details are unknown (Grafics mem/Shared mem: 3967MB,Dedicated/System videomemory: 0MB) in the modes I can't change for a higher resolution because the monitor goes off if I set any higher. The monitor type: Generic PnP Monitor and Microsoft Basic Display Driver.

Then I've tried to update the adapter (auto detect says it's up to date, I don't know what does adapter mean so I cannot download a driver for it but I've downloaded "driver talent" that couldn't install a ATI Radeon 4000 HD because device was not recognized). Then I've tried to update monitor (up to date, and if I download the most recent driver it is not change anything, ASUS VW223D monitor type).

In device manager I've tried to disable monitor to force re-recognition but it didn't work. Then I've uninstalled and restarted the computer. It didn't work as well. Then I used Display Driver Uninstaller, PC showed blue screen death then restarted. It couldn't boot so I pulled off everything then back, turned off power took out little battery and the memory cards then back. Then after a couple restart it could boot. Problem was the same but I've waited because I thought it is because of the uninstall, and after 1 hour it worked. Changed the screen to the proper resolution. It took for 10 or 15 minute, then it turned back to the low resolution.

Some info: I have integrated video card, so the graphic specific stuff has always ran slow but it is acceptable for me. I use HDMI sometimes (but now it's not connected, and there's no other screen) I've checked cables, and screen with laptop (by the way it a desktop pc) and other monitor, everything worked well. Windows didn't update (I mean shortly) before the problem. CPU: AMD Athlon II X3 425

So I need solution, I don't want to reinstall windows (my experience it's not permanently problem will come back after a little time) or replace anything in PC. Is there any tips that I could try out?

I found some kind of solution with the GPU overclocking (on GPU with ATI Radeon driver) They suggest to raise the voltage or decrease the CPU clock. I don't want to try it before I'm not sure that It can't make any harm. Is there anybody who had used this solution for some problem?

Seriously, though, this is a driver issue: your screen has a certain definition, a fixed number of pixels, both vertically and horizontally, and obviously, Windows is using a driver that can accomodate that native resolution, for some reason.

When offered to download either a whole pack of drivers (all 60+GB worth) or just indexes, choose indexes, and in the left pane of the application, check boxes for "Better" drivers ("Not installed" and "More recent/newer" should already be checked).
