Inauguration of Dr. HarishChandra-Ji’s Commentary on Samkhya Darshan
(Upasana-Uddhaarak Bhashya / Upasana-Reviving Commentary)
On Falgun Krishna Dashami, Vikram Samvat 2081 (Dayananda Dashami), Sunday, February 23, 2025, on the auspicious occasion of the 200th birth anniversary of Maharshi Dayananda, a solemn and specially organized event was held in New York to inaugurate the book “Samkhya Darshan Ka Saral Bhashya” (Upasana Uddhaarak Bhashya), a commentary on Samkhya philosophy in Hindi that revives the classical practice of Upasana. The book was formally released by Dr. (Smt.) Rakesh-Ji and Shri Jethinder Abbi-Ji.
On this joyous occasion, the author, Vedic scholar Dr HarishChandra, also shared some insights from his scholarly journey. Notably, this commentary presents Maharshi-approved explanations for more than 90 complex sections of Samkhya Darshan. While this will aid scholars in understanding Samkhya, it will also facilitate the general public’s deeper engagement with Dharana (acquisition/concentration), Dhyana (meditation), and Samadhi (absorption) falling within Inner Yoga.
Today, millions of people practice meditation, and through this work, they will now be able to easily determine whether their practice truly leads them toward Inner Yoga. They will also be able to refine their techniques to gain pure meditative benefits. The reason for this is that this commentary presents an interpretation of Samkhya 3.33, aligned with Dharana (acquisition /concentration) whereas for several centuries, it has been misinterpreted as Pranayama-based. Yoga Darshan 1.34 has also faced similar misrepresentation, unfortunately.
The audience and attendees warmly welcomed the new book and, showing great enthusiasm, also posed several questions.
In the attached photograph, Mrs. and Mr. Abbi are seen honoring the author with a ceremonial shawl. Also present is the author’s wife, Dr. Kavita Vachaknavee, who shared stories from the author’s years of dedication and the various intriguing phases of their journey with the gathering.
It is noteworthy that this 622-page invaluable text has been published in Delhi by Vijay Kumar Govindram Hasanand Publications in their centenary year. The English edition of this book is also under publication and will soon be available for non-Hindi readers.
