SPIRIT BOXING Workshop: Integrated Martial Arts & Yoga Workshop                             

Sat, Jan 18, 12:30 PM - 2:15 PM $18 - $35 sliding scale (book online at $25Third Root Community Health Center, 380 Marlborough Rd, Brooklyn 

Empower yourself with a rigorous introduction to this archetypal, performative sport. Be prepared to sweat during this balanced and challenging workout: intention setting, jump rope cardio, sun salutation warm ups, the basics of shadow boxing (stance, footwork, punch combinations, defensive stance), partner drills, upper body / core conditioning, wrist therapy, asana, breath and relaxation. No experience necessary for this all level workshop. Bring sneakers to be worn indoors. 



SPIRIT BOXING Intro Series for Women & Transpeople 

4 Wednesdays at 6:30 - 8PM $115 Limited to 8 participants: Jan 22, 29 Feb 5 (class at 8:15pm this week only), 12. Workshop held at the Center for Anti-Violence Education, Park Slope, Brooklyn

Get in shape as we learn boxing basics in this workshop style course.  Expect a weekly in depth focus on stance, footwork, punch combinations, defensive strategyWe re-create a boxing gym for circuit-style training, refining technique using the Heavy Bag, Focus Mitt & Partner Drills. We strengthen using a Yogic Upper / Body Core Conditioning Routine, Plyometric Power Drills, as well as Focus / Breath Technique, Wrist Therapy & Restorative Asana. Along with technical and individualized instruction, you will learn how to wrap your hands. Empower yourself with a rigorous introduction to this archetypical, performative sport.

Emily trained as an amateur boxer from 2005 to 2010, and was a 2x finalist in the New York Daily News Golden Gloves. She was an assistant coach with "Discovering Your Hidden Warrior," a yoga / boxing program at Kripalu in 2008 & 2009. She offers an integrated yogic approach to classic Western boxing taught by private sessions and group workshops for youth and adults, as well as within queer communities.
