Hello.

At a recent workshop at NeurIPS, I heard that SpiNNaker2 is available free of charge for academia. Is it possible for you to tell us who to contact here? Also, does this mean that you can provide the SPiNNaker hardware itself?
Thank you in advance.

Hi,

To the best of my knowledge the newer SpiNNaker2 are not yet available or even accessible publicly yet.
The software to run on the new SpiNNaker2 is still under development.

For the existing Spinnaker systems see
and especially the link Juypter.
Access is free for anyone once they register with Ebains.

I am not sure is any old Spinnaker boards are still for sale.

PS. Please note the Spalloc server which is currently behind the Jiypter system is currently down.

Dear Kobayashi,

Here is an overview on the status of SpiNNaker2 and its availability.

At TU Dresden in Germany we are currently building up the cloud-scale SpiNNaker2 system with more than 30k chips / 5 million cores. The server boards with 48 chips are in commissioning, but there is no support yet for application software like sPyNNaker or the GraphFrontEnd.

We do have in operation single-chip SpiNNaker2 boards, for which we can provide remote access. There is a PyNN-like interface for the single-chip system: https://gitlab.com/spinnaker2/py-spinnaker2. Note, however, that the software is under active development and therefore not as stable and mature as the SpiNNaker1 software.

Please get in touch with me if you are interested in accessing the single-chip systems.

We plan to offer access to the large cloud-scale SpiNNaker2 system in mid 2024 with limited high-level software support for early adopters.

Regarding "SpiNNaker2 being available free of charge for academia":

Yes, as for SpiNNaker1, access to the cloud-scale SpiNNaker2 will be available free of charge for academia. However, due to limited resources, TU Dresden can provide SpiNNaker2 hardware only within joint financed research projects.

Yet, in the future, SpiNNaker2 systems (edge and cloud systems) can be purchased from the company SpiNNcloud (https://spinncloud.com/). The company is deeply involved in the ongoing software development for SpiNNaker2 and will also offer user/software support.

best regards from Dresden,

Bernhard

Dear Bernhard.

I really appreciate you sharing the details of SpiNNaker2 with me.

Could you please tell me how to access single-chip systems?

Thank you in advance.

(I may have mis-sent a similar email earlier, so if you have received it, please ignore it. I'm sorry.)
