Heya Peeps,
Last week we had a really low turn out at Spin Jam...which is really
no big deal. There is always ebb and flow...and mostly flow. However
it gave me the opportunity to reflect upon my experience/relationship/
desire to manage Spin Jam. Tonight "we" made rent, and made up a bit
of the money that I invested last week.
Since returning from my world tour I have been pretty well loaded up
with some really great opportunities, and given all the ways that I
feel I can best support great things happening in the world, I am
starting to think that Spin Jam might be better handled by someone who
can give it a bit more attention than I am choosing to right now.
There are a bezillion people spinning things in SF right now...and I
don't have the bandwidth to let them know about our fun little night.
It takes very little energy to manage Spin Jam, and I am happy to
mentor someone through it. I think it would be more fun for everyone
(including me!) if someone with more energy and enthusiasm was
spreading the flow.
It is my desire to pass Spin Jam on, just as it was once passed to me.
Who is ready to be come the next Servant in Spintasticness?
I have opened the settings for this google group so that anyone/
everyone interested can post to the group and we can have a little
discussion about it. I realize that many of you did NOT sign up for a
discussion group, and are not interested in that level of bandwidth. I
hope that you will be patient :)
I will keep it open for 2 weeks until the next jam, then I will make
it announce only again. Hopefully by then we will have heard some
really great suggestions and contributions from the community on how
to improve Spin Jam and inspire someone to take it on.
What I currently do is:
Send out the email (usually too late...earlier in the week would
probably be better!)
Show up at 9pm, hang out till 11:30pm
Put a check in the box for $85
Take out suitcase full of Spin Jam lights and donation box, let people
help set up.
Put suitcase back at end of the night.
Michael (DJ Faith) is currently committed to Spin Jam. He graciously
shows up everytime.
I manage the money such that if there is enough to give Michael money
for BART, I gladly hand it over. I cover the shortfalls and make it up
when it does well, and in general I have been breaking even for 3
years. I don't make any money off of Spin Jam.
That does not mean you can't...that just has not been my intention. I
just wanted to have fun playing with stuff in a room full of cool
people. I got what I wanted...
There are many things that could improve the Jam. Different night,
different lights, different ???
I would love to see your thoughts, suggestions and contributions...and
I am not going to necessarily be the one that makes them happen! So
think big, think lovely, and think FLOW! What will make the jam flow
more?
What will make you so inspired to participate, that you show up to
support it with excitement, attention and love?
Thank you for playing!
Many Happy Thoughts
Your Servant in Spintasticness
Jamie Luv
p.s. Thank you to Diane Waye for subbing for me for all the months
that I was gone! She did a great job and reported that it was a very
rewarding experience!
