Any way you could post an example of your GIF as a zipped attachment? I'm not having trouble with animated GIFs on my end. Would like to try yours to see if it's a configuration issue on your end or if there's something wacky with the GIF.
I have no problem inserting gifs and animations are working fine but they never stop. When I create the gif, I make sure it loops only once and it does when i open it somewhere else but in storyline it keeps looping.
I'm not familiar with .gif creation and looping, so I'm not sure why it would keep looping in Storyline if, when you created the gif without a looping command. You may try posting for others to take a look at. What program did you use to create it?
That second .gif was able to import into my Storyline file, and I did see the looping. I don't know a lot about photoshop, and creating these, but from other threads I've read, it's generally something you have to change within the original program. There is some discussion in this thread on what you may need to adjust and Christine shared a cool idea to workaround it here if you can't change the original .gif.
I've made another gif to make tests, but it doesn't work at all in Storyline, like the first gif I submit.
I can't understand why, because I followed exactly the same process. I'm a little lost here!
I did a bit more digging through some older forum threads, and found that a similar situation was reported to our QA team for review. At this time I don't have any updates to share in regards to that issue, but I've included this thread in the report with your sample gif that I was able to import into Storyline. The workaround that was shared with the other user who reported it is included below for you:
And what GIF? AE doesn't support animated GIFs in any way and for static GIFs has relied on Quicktime which at best is/ was a fragile thing.... That being so, you better convert it in Photoshop or anotehr app first to something AE actually can use.
EDIT: Nevermind the original question, I figured out how to crop a video and download it directly so I can screw around in after effects. Can't figure out how to move lightning start/end points in one frame without moving them in other though.
Sorry for the slow reply, don't have anything else to ask right now, but I felt like posting the end result, just because. This lightning is a lot of fun, even if it takes editing each frame, I think i'm going to screw around with affect effects effects more often. (Looks like you have to open gifs in new tab to view though.)
There's a sudden resurgence in the popularity of GIFs as decorative web doodads. We get the request often these days form our web people to hand them short video clips that they can process out as little GIF movies. They're cute. Like mice. They're vermin. Like rats.

also if you had a series of images: lets say 25 that you pulled from an mpeg via opening it in after effects. would the work flow be to then open that series of elements in photoshop? and then make them an animated GIF. if possible and lastly, i'd like to get a quick summary of which programs export animated GIFS. so here goes please correct me if i'm wrong:
So I found the easiest solution for this GIF-problem. Simply download and install quicktime, restart after effects and throw your gif in to your composition any way you like.

So I'm having some gif trouble too. It imports fine, but the transparent background is replaced with plain white. I tried using a linear color key to remove the white, but it also removed the other white parts of my gif. What is the issue? Is it something with the formatting of the gif? I've included a zip with the aep file and the gif.

Ao selecionar uma foto ou um GIF, talvez voc veja a opo Adicionar localizao e uma lista de localizaes sugeridas abaixo da imagem. Para marcar sua foto ou seu GIF com uma localizao, toque em Adicionar localizao para selecionar uma localizao da lista ou toque em uma das localizaes sugeridas com base no local em que voc est ou onde tirou a foto. Voc tambm pode buscar uma localizao. Basta tocar no cone do marcador de localizao ou em Buscar localizaes.
Nota: Para remover o arquivo de imagem selecionado, clique ou toque no x na miniatura da imagem (ou ao lado do nome do arquivo).
