MacSpeech Scribe is speech recognition software for Mac OS X designed specifically for transcription of recorded voice dictation. It runs on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. The software transcribes dictation recorded by an individual speaker. Typically, the speaker will record their dictation using a digital recording device such as a handheld digital recorder, mobile smartphone (e.g. iPhone), or desktop or laptop computer with a suitable microphone. MacSpeech Scribe supports specific audio file formats for recorded dictation: .aif, .aiff, .wav, .mp4, .m4a, and .m4v.

MacSpeech Scribe was originally developed by MacSpeech, Inc. and released February 11, 2010, at Macworld Expo in San Francisco. The product is now owned by Nuance Communications which acquired MacSpeech on February 16, 2010. Nuance is the developer of other speech recognition products including Dragon NaturallySpeaking for Windows, Dragon Dictate for Mac (formerly "MacSpeech Dictate"), and Dragon Dictation apps for iOS.

TonyLima, your reply to irina85, backhandedly 'dissing' a needlessly maligned country, is neither proper nor reasonable on what is a computing discussion board. Comments like yours are, I freely state, proper and acceptable on socio-political and op-ed sites but discussions.apple.com is not one of them.

I've used gotranscript.com in Britain. They transcribed two audio files of an interview about family history that had several people speaking and US specific kinds of language. Other than getting some words spelled in the Queen's English, they were good. An hour long audio file was transcribed quickly and for less than $100.

I've never had good luck with transcription (running an audio file into an app and have it write the words) but the dictation feature in Pages and other Mac apps seems ok if you speak real slow and enunciate.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause but currently the speech to text function is only available for Windows computers since the Mac speech engine does not allow Express Scribe to access it.

I think Express Scribe from NCH Software might be the ticket for you. It runs on Mac OS X 10.3 or higher, and it's free, but there's also a Pro Edition you can buy. You might also want to try this other method to convert your Mac into a Dictaphone.

I don't think Express Scribe does it either. From the description it seems it is simply playback software controlled by a foot pedal which allows you to play back audio at various speeds while transcribing by hand (typing).

If you're really looking for something a-la-Siri to convert what you say into text, it will require some pretty powerful voice transcription. There's Dragon Dictate and MacSpeech Scribe (both by the same company) which seem to do this, but I don't know how lucky you're going to be finding something that works under Tiger OS. Note: Dragon Dictate has a free version for the iPhone but definitely be sure you read the privacy statement if you're going to use it.

Automatic voice recognition software normally reduces the manual transcription needs. But Automatic voice recognition technology is not still matured to produce accurate transcription for non-American accents, or with people speaking quickly or multiple speakers audio files. If you have more than one voice it is almost impossible to get a good transcript. Add to that any background noise or a weak recording and you can pretty much forget it.

But according to my point of views automated software still doesn't provide accurate results to the folks speaking fast. So If you still getting any issues in using these software, then you can hire a transcribe(e.g portiva.com) to ease your work.

If you do manual transcription try Transcriber-pro. Features include, but not limited to time code, automated speakers insert, unclear audio parts tagging, text replacement and interactive transcript export. You can link your transcript to YouTube video and post HTML transcript with social media buttons to web site with transcribed video. You decide the way you break your interactive transcript down to quotes( each quote is linked to a specific part of the video and has popular social media buttons so that folks watching video/reading transcript could share the quotes they liked with their friends and followers on Facebook, Twitter and Google+). They offer a 30-day trial and reasonable subscription price. Web site -pro.com/en/ ?

II've been googling this question for weeks. The responses below miss the question which is how to transcribe an audio file not how to dictate. I found a YouTube showing a process using Soundflower app but Yosemite would not let me install it.

The decision on what transcription software to use comes down to time, money, deadlines, tech support needs, and requirements of the class/ department. If a researcher elects to use software, they will need to factor in the time it takes to learn how to use the software as well as the time it will take to transcribe the interviews.

Having everyone in the class/department consistently use the same transcription tool can help create a higher level of support as members can ask others for help solving problems or allowing another person to step into the transcription role if someone graduates.

Looking to dictate notes and transcribe medical records on your Mac? We feel your pain. Us Apple loyalists know that the struggle is real when it comes to finding compatible software.

In a nutshell, medical transcription software allows doctors and other healthcare professionals to dictate medical reports, letters, and other documents which are then transcribed into electronic health records (EHRs).

Near the top of our list, DeepScribe uses AI to extract medical info directly from patient conversations, offering a seamless documentation process for Mac users without relying on specific prompts.

Nuance, known for its speech recognition software, today unveiled version 4 of its Dragon Dictate software. The speech recognition software is designed to allow users to dictate text and control desktop and web applications via speech.

Version 4 of the software brings better accuracy with improved speech recognition technology and reduced latency due to better memory management capabilities. It also includes Nuance MacSpeech Scribe features, offering users the ability to transcribe text from a pre-recorded audio file, combining both voice recognition and transcription.

This new transcription capability is fast, accurate and easy and is ideal for writers, students, educators, field workers, business executives or any user who needs to access content from a single speaker's voice such as a podcast or other distinct audio formats. For instance, teaching assistants and students can record lectures at close range and turn them into text, and field workers can now transcribe recordings of their interviews directly from their digital recorder or smartphone.

You like to talk and while you have writer's block, you never seem to have talking block. You think like lightning and words are always available. The alternatives to talking are slow in comparison and include writing, typing, sign language, and morse code. You look at a keyboard and say "no thanks" (But the smart phone looks very appealing.)

If you hope to be the world's fastest talker, you will have to be much quicker than both John Moschitta, Jr., who was listed in Guinness World Records for a time as the world's fastest speaker, being able to talk at 586 wpm. He has since been surpassed by Steve Woodmore, who achieved a rate of 637 wpm. (More than 10 words per second)

We are in a new world of media where everyone is a potential publisher. Since data shows that 51% of web traffic is via search, anyone in business will find it beneficial to have written content on website pages.

There are many online services where people will transcribe audio for you for between a dollar and two dollars per minute. You can also find professional transcribers on Linkedin or hire college students to do it for you.

There are many new software packages available to automatically translate speech to text. The Nuance brand of dictation software, which includes the popular Dragon package is most popular.

You can use your voice to dictate text to your computer. For example, you can dictate text to fill out online forms; or you can dictate text to a word-processing program, such as WordPad, to type a letter.

Conveyor is a universally compatible dictation solution that works on any computer and EMR, requiring no setup. Hundreds of doctors use Conveyor daily to eliminate typing and complete clinical notes on time.

Doctors who use Macs need an efficient medical dictation workflow to minimize time spent on clinical documentation. But dictation options abound. You could hire a scribe in-house, pay for a third-party transcription service, or automate dictation using speech-to-text software.

If you are trying medical dictation for the first time or returning after a hiatus, consider medical speech-to-text software. Speech recognition technology has improved dramatically in the last decade, making automated dictation the most straightforward, accurate, and lowest-cost medical dictation workflow.

While the simplest way to use Conveyor is with the Conveyor USB, you can skip the USB and use the companion QR software. The benefit of the USB is that no software is required: just plug in the USB and start dictating. Learn more about when to use the Conveyor Software vs. Conveyor USB.

Mobius Conveyor uses the same underlying voice recognition technology as the long-established dictation software Dragon Medical. That means both apps will provide similar accuracy when recognizing and learning your voice and vocabulary.
