[How To Turn Off Alienware Keyboard Lights

Go Dark and Go Dim used to be an accessible user interface (UI) feature for users to quickly dim or turn off the lights within Alienware Command Center v5.X. This feature is not present in Alienware Command Center v6.0.10X.0.
The presets are bound to specific scenarios either under system default or game mode. If you want certain games to launch with no lighting effect, double-click the game title and follow steps 3-9 again.
At this point, I don't even care about fixing the Command Center right now. I just want to be able to turn the Alien FX keyboard lights off. They default to a blue color which is really annoying in the evening, especially when I'm watching the movie or just using my computer to export something for work and don't want to look at those bright blue lights.
Is there some way to turn these off outside of the Command Center on a 15 R4 laptop? Any manual fix? Alternatively, is there new intel on how to easily fix the Command Center? Pretty annoying that it updated automatically without asking me and then stopped working after over a year or working just fine.
Download the free Revo Uninstaller and use with Advanced scanning mode setting. Run Revo Uninstaller to see if AWCC (and OC Controls) is listed. If yes, uninstall your AWCC, press Scan and when prompted select and delete all files, you might get a second prompt to select and delete more files, then restart. You have now removed everything associated with the AWCC. (Repeat to uninstall OC Controls)
Thanks for the idea, that is my Alien FX key and unfortunately it stops working when Command Center stops working. I'm so tired of this, I spent 7 hours yesterday trying extremely complex, tedious solutions like this one, but to no avail.
Hi @nickt010 within local administrator account or run as administrator, this is what you should see with the free version of Revo Uninstaller. Double click application to be uninstalled for uninstalling window to appear and select Advanced Scanning Mode.
I have a problem with my son's M17x this morning. All was working fine and after some time, the machine switched it self off. Now it won't even boot - at least I think it won't because there is nothing on the screen as it's blank.
Baking the gpu is very easy actually, you preset your oven to about 275 degrees cover a cookie sheet with foil and set the card up off of it by rolling 4 balls of foil up and setting them on each corner of the card. you never want to have it laying all directly on the sheet. bake it about 10 minutes then let it cool off before setting back in the laptop. always make sure to take all components off along with the heatsink and any residue from the thermal compound. After baking you ill need to reapply some fresh thermal compound. I utilize artic silver 5. There are some more detailed instructions on this online, along with pictures. You will want to make sure it is your video card before doing this just to be sure. I just had to do it again last week, works like a charm for me every time.
Hi Luis, I've done what you said and the Windows login sound does not happen. I connected it to an external monitor and still no joy. I replaced the video card today and it was the same. I am out of ideas.
Hi Jolt_14794 - power is going to the screen as the ALIENWARE blue logo near the keyboard lights up as does the logo on the cover. I've replaced the video card as I though that might be the problem, but still nothing.
The power goes through normally to the computer ( As far as I can tell. ) The customized keyboard and ALIENWARE title under the screen is lit up as I customized it, that tells me it's still drawing data from my preferences somehow. The back-light for the screen itself is on, though the alienware head (displayed upon boot-up,) never comes up. The fans fire up every time, then die out after about 2-4 seconds. Also, an external monitor does nothing but say 'No signal.'
I have the exact same issue as Foxvolt. I normally would let it rest for about half an hour then try for about three times before it comes in. Once it is on it works perfectly but i would not dare try to restart or shutdown for then I would have the same problem all over again. I would really like to resolve this issue for this is still a great computer.
Hey guys, as all are similar issues I'll try to start discarding possibilities. First thing to do would be to run the LCD BIST. Hold down the "D" key and turn on your computer. The BIST should start running after a few beeps, this is a basic non-software dependent test for the LCD.
I tried as you suggested but I could not get that screen to appear. The problem is that when i hold down D, the fans spin for a longer period of time but the screen does not come up, Their is a notable difference in time that the fans stay on when i just press the power button (shorter period) and when i press both the D and power button (longer period).
I tried all night long but was unable to start my laptop. This morning i woke up and pressed the power button and the laptop came on the first try. I know that if I restart or shutdown down the computer, it would not boot up.
I also discovered that what i thought was the backlight of the screen was actually a reflection of the keyboard lights. when i press the power button, the alienware head does not appear on the screen and if I leave it on, i do not have any normal boot up sound (no sound at all) so I know that it does not enter windows for I do not have a password to enter windows. It enters automatically, Also the eyes on the alienware head on the keyboard does not flash so it is not reading from the hard drive.

It's just so sad that something that costs us so much is this horrible. From day one I have had problems with this laptop and the battery not charging correctly. You would have to remove it and put it back in- then it would start excepting a charge. And if you actually carried the laptop places you constantly have to rinse and repeat any chance you got in hope you would mantain a charge while plugged in. The company is completely aware and service call after service call they still had no hotfixes or solutions except continue removing battery and putting it back in. Joy. They discouaged me from returning the laptop saying the tech department is working on it. That is was a software issue and an update would be available soon. Cough* that never happened.
I understand you guys want to be innovative, but having a forced feature involving keyboard lights is not good. Paladins is a game I used to play before I got my M17. But because of the forced lights FX, I had to stop playing because it was bothering my eyes. I shouldn't have to spend another $700 plus to buy a different brand of a laptop, just to avoid a forced FX light feature. It has gotten really annoying.
Along with this, each time I have tried to play Paladins, the FX feature glitches and won't return to my custom settings. Shutting down and restarting doesn't work, I have to completely uninstall the command center and reinstall, then customize all my settings again. I shouldn't have to do that. Like I said, I get trying to be innovative, but you risk someone returning their laptop/switching to another brand, all because of a forced setting. Some people are light sensitive to certain colors and unless Alienware is a brand where it's "Lol, nah you gotta have perfect vision for us lol, we don't play that here", then sure, sounds lit. But otherwise, please remove it.
I don't know if this is still relevant for you or not, but in Alienware Command Center version 5.2.63.0 you can go to Settings (top right menu bar)->Misc.->Disable AlienFX API. While I don't have Paladins, I do have Lord of the Rings Online, and choosing this option fixed the issue of LOtRO overriding my FX settings. If you have an earlier version of ACC and that isn't an option, you can try upgrading and see if that fixes it.
My keyboard lights went dead
Dell online support diagnosed as bad keyboard. Dell tech replaced keyboard - no joy
Dell tech came back and replaced motherboard - no joy
Dell tech came back and replaced palm rest - keyboards lights came on but, will not turnoff. AWCC still does not recognize keyboard
Uninstalled/Reinstalled AWCC - no joy

The articles suggested file names and locations, as well as registry entries. For files and the registry, what I found on my computer was that the items were slightly different than those referenced in the articles. I thought one reason could be that my command center was a newer version, although I was not sure.
My approach became slightly reckless. I was facing a windows re-install. The Dell tech had made three visits already. This was the second time that a hardware change had problematic consequences. The first being when replacing the motherboard that the change in motherboards wiped out the credentials for Outlook to use MS Exchange - a problem that I had to fix myself.
After the third Dell tech visit, the keyboards were stuck on. When I texted this information to the departed Dell tech, he was stumped. His backup support team recommended the windows reinstall. So, I felt that I had nothing to lose...
To be clear, I am a very long time Dell customer. I love the products and value the support. The Dell tech who came out was good. To work towards resolution, the keyboard, motherboard, and palm rest were replaced. The issues - Outlook/Exchange and re-installing Command Center - involved the interaction between hardware changes and the attendant consequences to system software. These consequences fell throw the cracks.
