SPICMACAY@UCI cordially invites you to an afternoon of Hindustani Classical Music in on April 29, 2018, 3pm onwards at Palo Verde Community Room, 7000 Palo Verde Road, Irvine, CA 92617.
Please note that like all SPICMACAY events, this concert is FREE! We are are a student-driven, volunteer organization and need your support and encouragement to continue promoting our rich culture! Please make every effort to attend this concert. We also invite anyone interested to volunteer.
Parking Information:
You will need to buy a parking permit ($10 for full day or $2/hour) at Anteater Parking Structure and then you can park in the same structure (5 mins walk to the venue).

Pandit Sanjeev Abhyankar
Pandit Sanjeev Abhyankar, the maestro from the Mewati Gharana, is an artist of international acclaim in the field of Hindustani Classical and Devotional Music. With his magical singing, he has attracted the young generation towards the Indian Classical music. In a career spanning more than 25 years, he has assumed the mantle of a role model of dedication, hard work, patience and perseverance.
Sanjeev ji's sustained excellence in performance has earned him many prestigious awards like:
-The Pandit Kumar Gandharva National Award 2008 by the Govt of Madhya Pradesh,
-The prestigious F. I. E. Foundation National Award 1996,
-The title 'Sur Ratna' in 1996,
-Pandit Jasraj Gaurav Puraskar 1991 and
-The President's award from the All India Radio in 1990.
He has proven his versatility and expertise in different genres of music and has won the coveted National Award 1998 as the best male playback singer for the Hindi film 'Godmother'.
Sanjeev ji has performed in over 200 different cities in India and abroad - U.S.A., Canada, Australia, Europe and the Middle East several times.
He has several albums by reputed music companies like Times Music, E.M.I Music, Sony Music, Navaras Records U.K., Music Today, H.M.V, Neelam Audio Videos U.S.A., Sona Rupa U.K., Ninaad Music and Fountain Music which have been highly acclaimed all over the world.
His talent as a classical composer is obvious in the numerous classical and devotional compositions that he has set tune to. Many of them are available for free download on this website for music lovers to enjoy.

Shri Ajinkya Joshi
Ajinkya Joshi is a talented and established Tabla player of the younger generation. He started his initial training at the age of seven from Pt Shantilal Shah and then from Taal-Yogi Padmashree Pt Suresh Talwalkar.
Exceptionally sweet tonal quality, a perfect balance between Daaya-Bayan, clarity of compositions in Tabla solo and the precise Vajan of his strokes are some highlights of his playing. He possesses a highly disciplined sound technique. Ajinkya is the recipient of Vishnu Digambar Paluskar Award in 1999. He has been awarded the national scholarship for young artists by the Government of India.
He has accompanied several artists such as Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar, Pt Ronu Majumdar, Smt Shama Bhate, Pt Venkatesh Kumar, Pt Sanjeev Abhyankar, Smt Ashwini Bhide, etc. He has performed in major classical music festivals in India such as Sawai Gandharva in Pune, Harivallabh Sangeet Samaroh in Jalandhar, etc. He has performed Tabla Solo in festivals such as Bengal Classical Music Festival in Dhaka and has done musical tours in USA, Canada, Europe.
Shri Tanmay Deochake
Tanmay Deochake is a renowned Harmonium performer in the Indian classical industry. With his innate talent, passion, practice and blessingings of his Guru Pt Pramod Marathe, Pt Ulhas Kashalkar and Pt Suresh Talwalkar, he has earned name and fame.
Tanmay is the most sought after Harmonium player in India. He has accompanied many established artists like Ustad Zakir Hussain, Gaansaraswati Kishori Amonkar, Pt Ulhas Kashalkar, Pt Rajan Sajan Mishra, Pt Anindo Chatterji, Smt Koushiki Chakraborty and many, many others both in India and internationally. Tanmay is now also emerging as a solo Harmonium artist. In addition, he is a teacher to many across the globe.
