Pandit Shivkumar Sharma is the master instrumentalist of the Santoor and is credited for popularizing the instrument.

He has won various distinguished honors including  the Padma Shri and the Padma Vibhushan.He has also teamed up with the renowned flautist Shri Hariprasad Chaurasia to produce the album "Call of the valley" which became the largest selling album of Indian classical music  and the same duo also gave score for the movie "silsila" whose music was again a hit.in his words,he describes his utimate goal as "to play such kind of music which will make the listeners forget to clap;which will make them silent".
