Dear Fellow SPHS Graduate:
I have been asked to share a very important announcement from a Class
of 1957 Alum about the upcoming theatrical production by current SPHS
students which focuses on the rich history of our Alma Mater. Tickets
are FREE, but must be reserved in advance. To reserve tickets,
contact the Wilma Theatre Box Office at
215-546-7824. Tickets are
required for entry.
"In six days, Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 7p.m. a SPHS student drama
group will present their play, "We Write South Philly High" at the
Wilma Theater on The Avenue of the Arts in Philadelphia (265 S. Broad
Street). The students developed their script from a process that
included interviewing alumni representing many decades as well as
current classmates.
These special students are highly motivated in their desire to create
a new perception of SPHS as well as real change amongst the student
body. While writing the play, the students learned about the
theatrical process and reinforced their academic skills.
The one time performance has the support of the Philadelphia School
District and the City of Philadelphia and will be covered by the
Philadelphia Inquirer. The school administration, 1812 Productions,
The Young Playwrights and the Wilma Theater would like the physical
support of alumni and friends by our attendance. The students and
production staff would value our participation in a Q & A session at
the end of the performance. Tickets are FREE but limited so make your
reservation as soon as possible by calling the Wilma Theatre Box
Office at
215-546-7824. Tickets are required for entry.
Please join my wife and I in a celebration of SPHS; an event that will
honor our storied history as it inspires the current student body and
the community to appreciate their diversity.
Thank you.
Marc Adelman"
