Encore Performance of "We Write South Philly High" 12/2/2011 / Award of Excellence Luncheon 11/16/2011

Fellow Southern Graduates:

Below is an invitation to join us at the encore presentation of “We
Write South Philly High” at the Wilma Theater (Broad and Spruce
Streets) on December 2, 2011 at 8pm, from the Alumni Chair for the
event, Marc Adelman:

““I am South Philly High!”, young students shouted defiantly and
proudly from the stage of the Wilma Theater this past June. Twenty-
five members of our alumni association encouraged by past President
Bill Esher were in the audience to support the students that night.
We were rewarded with a performance that brought some to tears and the
entire audience to their feet in appreciative applause.

SPHS students wrote and staged the play themselves assisted by the
professionals at Philadelphia Young Playwrights, the Wilma Theater and
1812 Productions. Their ultimate reward was The Barrymore Award
(Philly’s answer to the Tony Award) for educational excellence.

Friday night, December 2, 2011, at 8 p.m. at the Wilma Theater (Broad
and Spruce Streets), the award winning “We Write South Philly High”
will be performed for and sponsored by your SPHS Alumni Association.
The Alumni Association Executive Board (Sam Chatis, President) would
like to fill the 300 seat theater with alumni, family and friends.
Tickets are just $15 each. ALL TICKET PROCEEDS WILL BE DONATED TO THE
NEW DRAMA AND ARTS GROUP AT SOUTHERN.

As alumni of the “School of the Stars” we have our own
rich cultural history of talent. The opportunity to honor and respect
that tradition presents itself to us as we assume the responsibility
to support the Arts and the new and current SPHS Drama Club. Sam and
I look forward to sharing the performance of “We Write South Philly
High” with you.

award ceremony will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at noon at
the Waterfall Room (Swan Caterers), 2015 S. Water Street,
Philadelphia, PA.

Each year we recognize persons (not always Alumni) for their work in
the community. This year’s recipients of the Award of Excellence are:
