Can I refer to multiple footnotes/citations at once?

I can write citations like this:

    Based on the algorithm described in [1]_,[2]_.
    
    .. [1] First reference

    .. [2] Second reference

But this renders as "described in [1], [2]."

Is there any way to get "described in [1, 2]" ?

Hi,

At present, footnotes and citations are not concatenated. And we don't
have a plan at all.
Is this form usually used in real world?
