FWIW, Github is currently pledging to match the first $5000 USD, per developer, in their first year of sponsorship. So your funds are worth double if you want to take that into consideration.

To supercharge community funding, GitHub created the GitHub Sponsors Matching Fund, which matches up to $5000 USD total per sponsored developer in their first year, or 12 months, of sponsorship.

I just saw that until May 2020 GitHub is even covering all fees so that 100% of funds go to the developer.

GitHub will not charge fees for GitHub Sponsors. And to celebrate the launch, we’ll cover payment processing costs for the first year of the program—through May 2020! One-hundred percent of your sponsorship goes to the developers and projects you fund.
