Hi everyone, 

I'm very new to Sphinx. I'm wondering if anyone can help me resolve an issue regarding the generation of my Index page. I am operating on MacOS.

I have, at the top of my index.rst file: 

.. _search: 

.. _genindex: 

And, at the bottom: 

Indices and Tables 

=================

* :ref:`search`

* :ref:`genindex`

However, my terminal issues me with the error message: 

'Failed to create a cross reference. A title or caption not found: genindex'

and the same for 'search'

Hi hamillp...,

If you reference target is not title/sectiontitle/... you might want to use
"Internal hyperlink targets with empty link blocks" [1]_
