Skip genindex and search for pdf output?

Often with Sphinx you'll see something that looks like this in the index.rst file:

.. toctree::

   another_file
   one_more_file

Index
=====

* :ref:`genindex`
* :ref:`search`


The last two items, genindex and search, are particularly useful when producing HTML output but just create noise in PDF output. Is there a good solution in Sphinx 3.1.2 for the case where you want to create both HTML and PDF output from the same source files and have the genindex and search only for the HTML output?
